Good morning,

It’s currently 18 degrees and clear. Yesterday’s high was 7 degrees with an overnight low of -5 degrees. Hwy 441 is still closed, but radio chatter shows progress being made. The trails up top still have plenty of ice, plan accordingly.

I crawled down from my loft and shivered. I walked over to the heater, turning it up for an afternoon of tea and reading. I put on my black balaclava and parka. Warm and feeling like a hooded seal, I made for Myrtle Point.

Walking through the biting cold, the lingering snow crunched beneath my old boots. My thoughts drifted to mountain beneath me. How could I capture this landscape in different ways?  I pondered this question as I summited High Top. I resolved to try and look at the mountain with a different pair of eyes. What new views could I discover?

…I hiked on, determined to find out.

Onward,
Seth

I’m enjoying your posts and images, Seth. I especially like this morning’s shot looking southwest, with Sugarlands and Mt. Collins in cold winter blue, and the high peaks beyond in warmer light.

Thanks Bob,

Walking back from Myrtle Point, the light was incredible. Fun day behind the lens.

Cheers!

Hello Seth, I enjoy your photography and poetic commentary from Mt. LeConte. Sometimes I view your posts with envy and sometimes with relief that I'm not there. But I always appreciate your willingness to share the joy and pain of living on one of the highest points in Tennessee. I wish you a happy and healthy 2018. Since your bio is not included with the staff, would you share some information about your background, where you're from, and how long you've been posting on the blog.

Amazing photographs, including the new profile picture. You are starting to look like the mountains!
Still having dreams about my recent visit to LeConte. Truly a unique experience. Hope to climb up again one day and see her in spring or summer.😉

WOW! Every time I see on of your photos that’s my reaction, just WOW. Thank you for getting out there when we can’t and sharing with the rest of us what you experience.
I wonder how many will see this photo and miss the moon. So often we don’t see what’s right in front of us.

Just curious... I love your photos, wonderful composition and colors. As a photographer myself, I wonder if you would consider a couple of black and white images. How cool would it be to have a large format camera up there. Of course it would be a bear to pack in. Enjoy and stay warm.
