Morning y'all, It's a beautiful, misty morning up top. The high yesterday reached 49 degrees. The overnight low was 41 degrees. It was 41 degrees and cloudy at 7am observation. The mountain received .76 inches of rain yesterday, most of it coming overnight. The trails are sure to be excessively soggy today, so be prepared for wet feet. I'll see y'all on the trails!

The quote today is very appropriate. I find I'm fearful of the future.

Franklin, the trails will freeze and dry out again. The sky will gray and clear up. The mountain will get freezing cold and hot at humid at the outset. But looking backward as you hike will ensure you get more than your share of fear and all that goes with it. While the mountain is uneven and steep, it wants you to climb and it wants to show you its summit and the gorgeous views it avails you along the way. Now turn around and take in the mountain, it has so much to give you! Prepared, you have nothing to fear!

I don't share your optimism. I refer to Charles Dickens line " It was the best of times, it was the worst of times". Unfortunately I see dark times ahead.

Hi Franklin! I am sad to hear that you sound hopeless. I have found that I cannot put my hope in things of this world, not money/economy, people, politicians, job, etc. My hope is in God alone. When all around me looks fearful, I find peace in God who gives me a hope and a future! I like Tom's comments. Life is a journey with ups and downs just like those wonderful Smoky Mtn. hikes. By the grace of God, we will reach the summit. Try to enjoy the views along the way.
