Good Morning, It’s currently 20 degrees and clear up top. Yesterday’s high was 38 degrees, with an overnight low of 26 degrees. We received .5” inches of precipitation. After calling in the weather the temperature dropped and we received a dusting of snow. -- I woke up feeling a few miles older than usual. Yesterday’s twenty-five mile ramble through the Great Smoky Mountains reminded me that Monday should be an easier one. I climbed slowly out of bed and descended from the toasty loft. Tight calves flexed with each step. I smirked and made a comment to myself - “It was worth it.” The discomfort would be temporary; the memory of running to the highest point on the Appalachian Trail would be with me, forever. I finished getting dressed and left the cabin… … a flurry of snow began to coat the landscape. So it goes, Seth “We must all suffer one of two things: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret or disappointment.” - John Rohn

What cabin is that a picture of, and does that have the loft you spoke of?

Seth hasn't said yet but I believe it to be the shelter on Mt. LeConte close to the Lodge.

So a few years back a couple of High School friends and I hike the AT within the park and the trail took us very close to but not to the peak of Mount Guyot. As I recall it would be a scramble up with no trail? Were we in error? Was it a scramble? Were you able to reach the peak? Either way what an ambitious goal! Did you stop at Charlies Bunion along the way? The view there is outstanding. Your pictures are awesome!

I think he is talking about Clingman's Dome the highest point on the AT......

Glenn, it would appear you are correct. For some reason I thought it was Mt. Guyot!

Always love the cabin photos ... they are such unique structures and make you want to be hold up in one for a while.
