Lately, since love had seemed an impossibility, I had steeled myself against it. But I held Claire, and that was that forever. Something was sealed. Desire abides. It is all people have that stands proof against time. Everything else rots. Charles Frazier
Morning y'all,

It is a gloomy morning up top. The high yesterday reached 38 degrees. The low reached 23 degrees. It is currently 33 degrees and cloudy up top. There are about 3 inches of snow left up top. The trails are in surprisingly good shape. With the low daytime temperatures, the mountain has experienced very little melt. The snow is packed and has pretty good traction. I hiked up yesterday without any Microspikes or gaiters. I would still recommend them depending on your comfort level on moderate ice, but they are not as necessary as expected. The mountain is supposed to get 3 inches of new snow and some brutal cold fronts will be moving in tomorrow evening. It is time to get after it if your New Year's resolution is to feel Mother Nature's rawness! Enjoy!

Yes, welcome back. Looks like the mountain could get a lot of snow soon; In two or three days I'm paying a visit to the NOC store in Gatlinburg to get some winter hiking pants {have no idea of what kind to get, but I'm sure the NOC folks will have a good idea} and a new pair of ice spikes, then, a short hike will be in order, probably up Trillium provided I can get to the trailhead. G;day

That brutal cold is headed our way. Only wish there were more snow in the forecast. My attitude is, if it's going to be cold, it might as well snow! I welcome your return, JP.

Yeah, I think the mountain is going to plunged into the deep freeze very shortly. Stay warm and safe up there, JP. I hope you enjoyed your time off.

It is 60 degrees in Gatlinburg @ 2100 ft, 7:30pm Sunday and so windy as the arctic front marches this way. Makes me wonder what is like up top!
