Picnic time!
Well, for as dreary as it was all day yesterday, the weather did us a real solid there at the end of the day and cleared up so we could have a crew picnic on the porch and watch fireworks down in the valley (and thankfully, no further alien shenanigans...) ! Yesterday's high was only 56 and the low was 50 and the mountain received a steady .5" of drizzle throughout the day. Today we are in for more rain and it is still on the cooler side, still in the mid 50s. There is still a flash flood watch for the area until at least this evening, so I would highly recommend against using the Rainbow Falls trail today and possibly tomorrow as some of the stream crossings on it can become quite treacherous. Everyone be safe and aware of your footing and surroundings when hiking in these slippery conditions!

Here it is the first sunday in july and I am not hiking up for the night in over 33 years. So sad.. I can just smell the mountain and feel the air up top. Hope to make the trip again sometime. Glad to have made it so many times with the kids and then grandkids. Wonderful memories.

Your table looks so inviting! Just kidding on my comment from the 4th. Just wanted to tease you a little. I'm glad the weather cleared up just enough for you all to enjoy the 4th and see some fireworks! Peace!

Looks good, even in the rain. Happy late 4th of July. Been up there a couple of years ago to spend the night July 4th. Hiked it in pouring down rain with a stream running down the trail via Alum. It was still a great time. I've been up there a few times after that. Hope that sunshine comes soon for ya all.

I was hoping to see photos looking at the 4th fireworks down below! I bet you all had the best seat in the house for all the pyro fun. Hope to visit this fall, someone needs to cancel first, so here's hopin'!

we had a great time up there on July 5. we spent July 4 night in downtown Gatlinburg, trying to navigate the throngs to get closer to the fireworks. they were great . and then , up rainbow on July 5 with our friends tim and sue, where Tim played "hey jude", and I struggled to find a new "E" string (to play puff the magic dragon). food and company was great. Leconte is so unique... And then Bullhead totaled my knees... ugh
