New growth, old stump. You've got to admire the resiliency of the Frasier Firs.
Good Afternoon,
And just like that, BOOM, it's July.  It certainly feels more like summer up here, as there has been a definite increase in humidity and overnight lows.  Fortunately, the midday highs continue to be mild.  We ended the month of June with a high temperature of 59, followed by a low of 50.  We raked in 0.5" of rain to put us near the 47.5" mark for the year.  I've mentioned it a few times this season, but 2016 only saw 52.5" of rainfall on Mt. LeConte, so the sooner we can clear that hurdle, the better.  We've experienced light mists today, but much of the day has been scoping out the insides of the clouds.  Every once in a while the sun will tease us, and brief windows down into the valley leave us in awe at the greens and blues blending and blurring below.
Wishing safe travels to all who are visiting the region leading up to the holiday.  We hope to see you up top!  And a special thanks to Pat and Jeanie.  Ya'll are loved and legit.
     Have a great weekend.

Love the fresh, lush green! I never take a shortcut to the lodge; always make the steps facing the dining hall my official entrance. Happy tear when I arrive, sad tear when it's time to leave.

Hi Jeanie and Pat. You guys were so sweet to take a picture of me and my grandson at Alum Cave Bluffs on Sunday, June 18th when we ran into you there. Family members just love the picture of him pushing me up the trail. It was his first trip to LeConte Lodge and he loved it. Ya'll helped make it special for both of us. Speaking of awesome, that certainly describes the two of you. We hope to see you both there again on future trips.

I would love to spend three or even four days during the 4th of July holidays up at the Lodge, mainly to be away from all the noise around here in east central Kentucky where the local people have already begun setting off their stashes of fireworks and which they will continue with for a day or two after the 4th ! I've never seen so much fireworks activity during this holiday. I also tend to not come to the Park during this time of year due to such huge crowds but to be able to go to the Lodge I'd take my chances, etc. I'm sure that even from the Lodge site one can see fireworks down below in the "valley", but at least one has some separation distance up there. I'm a patriot but I have rather lost my thrill with fireworks. Good holiday to all.

I stayed in Cabin #5 with my dad on July 1. The trail was great. I hiked up Alum Cave trail. I liked all of the steps and the big rocks. The broccoli soup was GREAT! Where do you get the chocolate chip cookies? Can you send the recipe for the broccoli soup and cookies?

Thanks again for making all this stuff at the top of the mountain.

My wife and I came up Alum Cave trail on June 30th. I had been several times but this was the first time for my wife. She was a real trooper considering the fact that it rained on us the entire hike to the top. As usual the staff and accommodations were amazing. Also enjoyed the violin music during dinner. After walking all day in the rain we were thrilled when the skies cleared at dusk and we could see the lights from Sevierville. Thanks again for another memorable visit to LeConte.
