The bees are loving the beautiful array of wildflowers blooming up top.
Happy Saturday to all my fellow hikers! The weather so far today is keeping us on our toes, sunny and clear one minute and cloudy and dark the next. There is a chance of isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon, so pack for rain. Yesterday's high was only 61 and the low was 51 overnight. Chilly enough for a jacket for sure! We received .01" of precipitation, mostly in the form of mist and humidity. While the temperature isn't necessarily hot, the air is very thick both down below and up top. Drink water!

#KateRocks! #training4themountain It is only 2 1/2 months until I get to hike up and see all the beauty of the place my daughter & her boyfriend get to call home for the season. Kate & Ken, be safe, we love you! See you soon.

I like the cloud bank picture alot! I've often wondered what it's like for you all on top of the mountain when storms come rolling in. II've wondered if the mountain just sucks the storm up and over ya'll or does it dissipate it. If it's a low cloud bank with lightening, do you ever see lightening below you in the valley? If you do I think that would be something special to see. My husband and I happened to be eating in PF last year (I believe it was in July/early August) when a severe storm was moving across Knoxville into the Sevierville /PF area. My tornado warning was going off on my phone telling us to take cover NOW...tornado in your area! I did what any well versed person would do that happens to live in Tornado Alley would do (not)....got in my vehicle and drove as fast as I could back to our covered garage at our lodge in Gatlinburg so as not to have a chance at having 2 total losses on a rental vehicle in 9 months time! When we were safely back at the lodge I could still see the top of Leconte and I told my husband I bet the folks up at the lodge were in for a rough night! Don't know if any of you were even working at the lodge then. It's late, but have a good night!

In any mountain range with elevation you can catch yourself above the storm and lightning. That is a treat indeed!
