Greetings valley dwellers! Turnip here with, first and foremost, a shout out to a Mr. Henry Walker and his group for bringing his delicious home grown golden cherry tomatoes and baked goods! We truly appreciate you, and your bountiful harvest. The sun finally decided to stick around for longer than a few minutes today so you might find the crew praising the sun up at Myrtle point, or taking a cat nap on the back porch or hammocks. It cleared up enough last night to watch some of Dolly's summer fireworks in the valley. That is definitely something worth checking out if you are planning on staying the night. It's nice to see them from a different perspective. Our sweet Bonnie and the llama boys made a trip up today! Without them, this lodge couldn't run as well as it does and they work extra hard in the hot summer. So if you plan on hiking up on Sunday, Wednesday, or Friday I'm sure they would appreciate if you shared a left over snack with them. Psssst...they like banana peels....wink wink nudge nudge. The current temperature is a refreshing but sunny 67 and last nights low was 54. The weather forecast is still calling for rain but the clouds have been teasing us. Nevertheless, rain gear is a must. Better to be safe than sorry! Happy hiking and much love, Turnip.

Hello Turnip and crew! Been a loyal blog follower for many years and really appreciate the time you folks take to provide us flatlanders with a little daily view into one of my most favorite places on earth! Seems ya'll have been stuck in a rut last few days! Temps in 60's and 50's!!!!! My! My! Didn't get to book a stay up there this fall but guess I may have to hike up and down just to get a taste of that cool, refreshing, mountain air! I can smell the camp now! Clean fresh mountain air and Wild flowers along with that fragrance of all the plants trying to make their best before first frost and the occasional whiff of something good in the kitchen! Wish I was there today but dealing with my own summer rut of 90's and 70's with humidity in 90's making the real feel in the 100's!!! Awhhh! sweet summer in the south!

Rainbow Falls trail wasn't recommended for hiking up last week due to all the rainfall. How is that trail now? We're hiking up in the morning for our first visit. Planning on coming up Rainbow and returning on Bullhead the following day.

You should be fine now. It's just a hazard when there have been several inches of rain in a short amount of time (think flash flood type conditions). Comments are closed.
