Smokey sunset last night.

The same shot just moments later.
Good morning! I hope that everyone had a wonderful weekend.  Yesterday's high was 63 and the low felt chilly at 45. We received .25" of rain yesterday, mostly in the evening. Today is a little dreary and chilly, only about 50 so far and the clouds are thick and low with rain. Stay warm and dry today!

Beautiful images, even if somewhat apocalyptic.

Norman, I read your message from the other day regarding the omitted word in your comment. No worries.

Beautiful photos. Only four weeks until I make my first climb up there. Can't wait!

Two photos of my favorite scenes at the Lodge, fog. Many thanks.

The evening fog reminds me of one of the times we camped at the Sheep Pen Gap backcountry campsite, which is located below the ridge of Gregory Bald in the western part of the Smokies. We were settling in for the evening after a long hike, and the sky was clear one moment, and then the very next we were engulfed in clouds. The breeze was blowing the clouds extremely fast, and it looked like smoke. Thank you for taking the beautiful pics of the sunset.

as I read, my husband and I on the road to get ready for our climb tomorrow. Our third overnight, and bringing a "newbie" with us this trip! See y'all tomorrow afternoon! Fog I don't mind, although we were hoping for clear skies to enjoy the full moon tomorrow evening.

from may 24th trip up: not much changed on alum yet till you get to the first foot log. lot of drainage improvements around to upper end and just past it there is a new se of stone steps. that portion was badly eroded so the steps should help. at arch rock, looks like they are relocating the stepping stone out from the wall a little. less chance to whack you head on the wall - but it still managed. that's as far as they have gotten so far. rest of trail is as enjoyable as ever, weather was great, staff friendly and informative as usual.

Doug Y,I loved your photo of Ramey's Cascade. If one hadn't been there they wouldn't know how how to appreciate it as much.Carl,Cassandra and I were there in 2007 or 2008 and it is a hard 8mi.but beautiful.I am so glad we did it before we got too old.LOL You were saying about the trail may be hard to find ,we went from Greenbriar.4mi.one way and the first 1 /1/2 is easy but when you get to the 2 1/2 sign and turn left it gets pretty tough especially the steps just before you see the beauatiful falls.I am enjoying your web.sight.
