Good Afternoon, Another gorgeous day to be up top. We’re in and out of the clouds and temps feel great in the upper 50s and lower 60s. Continuing to see a great deal of day hikers out and about enjoying this great weather. The weather looks decent again tomorrow, but the chances for storms and rain showers return come Thursday. Expected to last through Saturday before letting up on the backside of the weekend. If you’re hoping to make the climb during those potentially wet days, come prepared with those waterproof layers! The mountain continues to show signs of new life, as the wave of wildflower blooms and fresh vegetation growth ascend the slopes. The Catawba Rhododendron at places like Inspiration Point have been going strong, one of the better peak blooms in years at that spot. Plants are beginning to grow tall here in camp, although they are several weeks out from putting on their grand annual display.
NPS trail crews have a lot on their plate, but they continue to chip away at trails in need of attention. All trails to the mountain summit are open (except Trillium on weekdays), but a couple still have some obstacles to contend with, none more so than Bull Head. Use caution, especially if you happen to be on trail when one of these pop-up thunderstorms fire up.
