Good morning,
As I inched out of bed this morning to begin making coffee for breakfast I was pleasantly surprised to see clear skies all the way to the valley floor. Our forecast for today is calling for heavy rain all day. At least we got a good sunrise in to kick off the weekend. The rains are expected to continue throughout the weekend. Trail conditions will be wet with higher water levels, especially on rainbow falls trail and Trillium Gap. Be sure to pack that rain gear. Temperatures are going to be a little bit warmer over the weekend. Highes expected in the upper 60s and low 70s. Be sure to pack plenty of water. It is currently 59 degrees out. Last night we only dropped to 51 degrees.

My group of 14 departed from the lodge on June 22. I have had third Friday in June (21st this year) priority reservations for a long time and now I will be back in the ‘pool’ with everyone else. This was my 36th consecutive year. I want to thank the reservation folks and the staff at the lodge for the great service over the years. LeConte is one of my happy places. Both my children and their spouses and one granddaughter have made the hike with us to the lodge multiple times. Many friends and friends of friends have experienced the wonders of Mt. LeConte with us. We are hoping to get a date next year so perhaps this is not ‘farewell’ but ‘see you later’.

The night of the 21st was my last night at LeConte Lodge with our 3rd Friday in June priority reservations. This was my 36th consecutive year. We hope to get into the pool next year. Most of my group of 14 hiked up Boulevard on Friday and down Alum on Saturday. We heard some thunder on the way down Saturday, but escaped the rain. Thanks crew for another (maybe final) year!
