Cooler temps in June? These guys LOVE it!

Greetings,
It's been a gorgeous day to be outside. The clouds have creeped in and out over the last two days, only giving us brief moments of uninterrupted sunshine. At one point there was the lightest of light mists, but nothing more. The main talking point recently has been the cooler climate. Last night we got down to 37 degrees! Highly unusual even for LeConte standards in late June. Day time temps continue to hang around in the upper 40's and lower 50's, so bring those layers, especially if there's a sunset. They're calling for more rain tonight into tomorrow, so one more factor to consider in your hike.

I VISITED LE CONTE TODAY VIA ALUM CAVE TRAIL AND ENJOYED THE COOLER TEMPS, FABULOUS VIEWS, AND THE LLAMAS. THE STAFF WERE VERY FIRENDLY TOO.

Spent many nights at the Lodge and the Shelter
In the 1960's when Mr. Brown was the Proprietor. Some old
Timers may remember the single engine aircraft
that was dropping supplies for Mr. Brown one summer in the 60's
and lost power and crashed on a cushion of young Spuce
Trees near Mertle Point! Plane was perfectly in tack and everyone survived ! The plane sat there for weeks until it could be removed by helicopter! Your Pancake photo brought back incredible memories of how good those pancakes were/are -- the altitude for sure! ( the best in the country) We had real wood fires in the small wood stoves in the cabins! I was at The Lodge the summer (70's) they installed the first water system and Toilets! We hiked the AT in the late 50's & 60's
with army backpacks , homemade poly tarps, # 10 tin cans , homemade buck saws, 2 1/2 lbs plumb axes, drank the spring
water on the trails (and never got sick--no filters) and used dead chestnut wood for our fires! No nylon anything, no gas stoves, no permits; you could hike the AT in the Park for 60 miles in both directions and never see another person! Those were the good old days for sure...I have photos from those trips if you're interested.

Loved our 2 recent visits to the lodge! Sweet llamas and the best pancakes ever! May God Bless you all who continue to make our trips to the lodge soooo amazing!
