Just Another Day Above the Clouds

9/23/2013

Picture
It was a beautiful day for a stroll around the mountain top. The high was 66º which made for a perfect day. The low dipped down to 33º. We hung out on top of the clouds for the entire day. Those are rare days for us, but well worth the wait.

I was beginning to wonder where you were. I figured I'd inquire after the season ended. . .

I check the blog everyday, but try to limit my comments so the "Comment Police" don't complain. Getting close for some fall hiking.

Yes, good morning, and hello Tony Ga. I've been away for a short while, so it's time to go read the posts from the last few days.

Yes, it seems that flexibility is the key to acquiring reservations. thanks.

If the Federal Government shuts down and they close the National Parks, I'm assuming that the lodge will likewise have to close ?? I'd hate to have reservations during such a time if it does occur !!

Jack - I'm concerned about that also.

I've never commented on the photos before, but I had to say something about that beautiful one of the undercast. The light is magical, and the mountain ash berries make a nice touch in the foreground.

Debi, well I'm going to do it. My son and I are will finally get to hike newfound gap to davenport gap in a few weeks. 3 days, 2 nights. Really wanted to go north to south but could not get the shelters to line up right. Looking at the recent post from Allyson, looks like we will hike in summer time temps and sleep in fall temps..

So jealous! Have a great time. I'll be expecting some pics and details of how it was. That's so great!

Good Morning all,

The first pic is beautiful! I can't wait to put this on our desktop tonight. The weather here in St. Louis is cooling down and trying to squeeze in as many hikes as we can before we're confined indoors. I will say our family has been playing so much outdoors that the house is in need of a good cleanup - that wonderful basement!

Have a blessed day everyone!

Hiked from the Clingman's Dome parking lot to the Little River Trailhead at Elkmont last Thursday. We were in cloud cover at the parking area, but the mist lifted by the time we reached the Goshen Prong trail. Evidently, the area was damaged by storms in the recent past. Nice hike, but we did not meet anyone until the last half of the Little River Trail.

That's a good hike, H Clark; Quite a descent into the valley below and, as you stated, not frequently travelled; I did that route a couple of times, and another time went up to Huskey Gap then down to Rt 441 where I had left a vehicle, spending one night at a backcountry campsite in between; These days I'd be very reluctant to leave a vehicle overnight along that main road.

I followed this hikers trail journal every day from start to finish. He made A video so touching about his journey, it soothed my heart and soul; I totally appreciate and respect hikers and what they choose to do, and I'm so inspired. Here's the link I had to share:
