LeConte Proverb

“May you have warmth in your igloo, oil in your lamp, and peace in your heart” - Eskimo Proverb

I liked the proverb above, but I think we need a LeConte Proverb. How about "May you have Tang in your juice glass, oil in your lamp, and peace in your heart" . I am sure you fellow LeConte Fans will come up with some good ones to keep us entertained for the day.

We are ready for another day on the mountain. The weather is perfect and I am sure the hikers will be taking advantage of this fall like weather. The high yesterday was 65º with a low of 44º. There is a definite chill in the air. Talk of snow has been heard around the dinner table. It is always fun for the crew to try and guess the first snow fall of the fall. I am guessing October 13th. But, what do I know?

Such a warming picture this morning. The very table I sat at last 2 times I was there. In the end seat not shown. Beautiful day here in Michigan, but I hear the rain is coming this weekend. Hope you all have a great weekend down there and may the snow stay away as long as possible. Or you can send it down to Brian. He'll take it. :)

How about replacing Tang with "heat in your cabin".?
Although Tang is an important feature, the proverb cries out for something more into the heart of the place.
On another note, what are the llamas going to do when the road to the Grotto Falls parking lot closes in NOV? Launch at Rainbow Falls lot?
What are ALL the llamas names. Are there two distinct consists or do you mix and match a lot? Whatever happened to the one that gassed out at the top a few years back?
When will Ruthie be back up top? My heart goes out to her for her loss,

May your soles remain attached to your boots, meal be fit for a bear, and view bring envy to the absent.

Hi there,
What time do Chrissy or Alan and the Llamas leave the parking lot?
Thanks

so, the bears are back at the shelter? was going to make resovations for the shelter, comes up "Closed due to bear activity". any sightings around the lodge? love to see them but a bear sighting is much more enjoyable than a bear encounter.

Shelter has been closed for several weeks now. Had planned to stay at the shelter first week of Sept. They mentioned sightings around the lodge just a few days ago.

I like "warmth" rather than heat; sounds softer. On my first Leconte visit, I was so mesmerized by the oil lamp, I turned mine very low and watched the flame burn much of the night. Maybe I shouldn't have admitted to that! Allyson, not that I would ever want to replace our JP, but I was thinking perhaps you and Chris might prefer a change of pace and be winter caretakers!

Oil in your lamp
Warmth in your cabin
Peace in your Heart

Warmth is better than heat!

Mixed metaphor:
If we are to use warmth and peace then we need to replace oil with light.
Light in your lamp
Warmth on your cabin
Peace in your heart

That sounds like a good idea..& the 'warmth' also..

I had to join the fun on this one ;)
May we all not use trekking poles in deep mud; therefore will not get stuck, or bent, nor lose their tips; and will last longer time. Peppermint Pattie's Proverb

I like the Eskimo Proverb and I think Tonk in SC has it right. Replace igloo with cabin. I also like the thought of a comfortable rocker & hot chocolate or coffee in your cup.

Looking forward to sitting at that table once again next season. Have a good 'un, y'all!

High on a mountain
Up above the clouds
On a path less traveled
By the busy lowland crowd

Lies a friendly place
A cabin in the woods
A rustic retreat
All filled with the goods

Where only a few have trod
To escape the fast pace
Seeking the solitude
Of this very special place

And upon a visit there
Many a soul renewed
Blessed by the company
And the awesome mountain views

And no matter the season
Or the trail traveled there
Many are the memories
Taken home to share!

I know this is more than a proverb but three lines just don't do justice to LeConte or the wonderful people that wait on us flat landers who trod up the trails to visit your beautiful abode. Nothing can add to the beauty of Mt. LeConte but I would like to extend a very deserving "THANK YOU" to all the lodge crew for all you do to make every trip up a truly special memory to be cherished forever. Your daily picture and information serve as my escape from a busy world. Many are the days I find solace from the heat and humidity of summer in the south by seeing your posts and following the weather and temperatures on your mountain. I count down the days until I can visit the lodge again in October. God bless each of you!
