Take that FedEx! You have nothing on our llamas. Rex has brought up clean linens, loaves of bread, groceries for the crew, and he can now add taking down a broken weed eater to his resume. Sometimes you just have to do what you just have to do. Hopefully, we will get the weed eater back soon, it is summer up here. The grass is growing at warp speed. If you are wondering, Chris uses it for the entire camp. It is pretty much the only way he mows the grass on the side of this mountain. We can add this to the list of many uses for duck tape on Mt. LeConte.
The forecast was of no use yesterday. The clouds finally rolled out and the sun shone down upon us. The high finally reached the 70s. The high was 73º with a low of 55º. It felt like summer yesterday. Once again, we are starting the day in the clouds. The forecast is calling for rain again, but I am not falling for it. I guess we will get what we get and be happy about it.

I don't know the exact size of the lodge grounds, but I might guess that cutting all its grass with but one weedeater is certainly a task, and I would also guess that you mihg twear out one machine each season. Didn't get any rough weather here last night, thankfully. Hope yours will be fair.

Oh, the joys of weed whackers. I have fought with the gas powered ones for years. I finally went and bought myself a battery powered one. Wouldn't help you much, but I love mine. Now, my leaf blower has taken over with arguing with me. It used to be a 2 puller, then a 5 puller, now it takes about 50 pulls. Time to buy a new one I guess. Love the duct tape, looks like something we would do. Been in the 70's in Michigan too. Finally got a nice rain here yesterday. We sure did need it.

Ryobi makes a 40 volt lithium battery model that is awesome and could probably be charged with solar panels. All you would need to do is match the charger voltage to a photovoltaic array. I can't help but think avoiding burning any gasoline on the mountain would only be a plus.

Allyson, I bet you a no-bake cookie that y'all get rain today. I feel for Chris, I hate using weed eaters, be they gas, electric or battery operated.

Debi, DON'T THROW AWAY THOSE YARD TOOLS!! All they need is the carburetor cleaned. The secret to getting years of trouble free use from small engine tools like a weed whacker, chain saw, leaf blower, etc. is to ALWAYS run all the gas out before putting it away. If you still have a lot of gas in the tank, turn the tool upside down over a coffee can and empty as much gas out of the tank as you can, then crank the tool and let it sit and idle until all the gas is gone out of the system. When the motor stops, you know all the gas is gone. If you will always do this, and buy the best brand you can afford,(and if you can't afford a good brand such as Ryobi, wait until you have saved enough money to buy one), the engines will start and run like a dream just about for ever! It is the one thing that people don't know to do, and it is such a simple thing to do to ensure getting your money out of the tool. Same goes for a lawnmower and a boat motor. You wouldn't believe the money I have made over the years going to the dump and picking up all the small gas tools and taking them home, simply clean the carburetor and replace the air filter, and Zoom, it's running like a dream with one pull of the cord!

Repaired my pressure washer by cleaning the carb this spring. One clogged jet kept it from starting. Very simple process found on the net. Just search the make and model for the repair.

My husband did clean the carburetor. He told me not to choke it. My leaf blower started right up tonight 2nd pull. Should be his job but I do all around here. Hes never home. So when he does come home, that's the last thing we want to do is cut grass. Its something I can do and always have. Better things to do like kayaking, riding motorcycles and climbing mountains. Thanks for the information Mark.

And if removing and cleaning a carburetor scares you because you know nothing about engines, simply search youtube for a tutorial video. You'll probably even be able to find one for your specific tool, use Google if you have to. After you have done just one, they are all so easy to do. My wife has even repaired our riding lawnmower by searching Google and youtube for symptoms and solutions.

Highs in the 70s and lows in the 50s? That sounds wonderful! What a relief that would be from the highs in the 90s and lows in the 80s we've been having. Although I'm sure if you're having to mow with a weedeater, it all feels just plain hot. :-)

We just had a whopper of a storm in Cosby. Wind, very heavy rain, some hail, lightening. I unplugged computers and other electronics. Hope hikers took shelter, assuming y'all got the same storm. Round two will be upon us soon. Stay safe and off the high ground for a while.

They just issued a tornado warning for Cocke and Sevier Counties. I live near Sevierville and it looks really bad toward the LeConte area. Please stay safe and don't take any chances.

This llama caught my eye.....not sure how I ended up here seeing both the llama AND the lodge but i'm so glad to find both. I've always been curious about llamas. I've lived in TN all my life and many many of my vacations have been spent in the SMokies...family....friends. I want to stay at this lodge sometime! Keep up the blogging and posting! and thanks :)
