Not much sun to speak of yesterday. The high was only 61 degrees. It was still a good day for a stroll. Chris and I put on our day packs and headed for Rocky Spur. Cloudy days like yesterday are great for keeping your focus close to home. We enjoyed checking out the ferns and the last of the wild flowers. I got a kick out of seeing the rock cairns that someone had pile on the sign. They must have gotten bored while waiting on the rest of their party to catch up.
There were not any views to be seen on Rocky Spur. We did notice that a few sand myrtle had come to life. It seemed as though they were the last to the party. I guess these little blooms did not realize the party was a few months ago.

If you like art made from nature check out Andy Goldsworthy's work. He's my favorite artist. It's amazing what he does with nature.

I KNOW I'm getting old for as many times as I've been to the lodge and hiked that mountain on various trails, my memory does not right now tell me where Rocky Spur Overlook is. I know I've been there, but I just cannot recall its location. Please tell me. It surely must be great being at the lodge lately with the nice cool temps and all. I was in Cades Cove this past Saturday bicycling and within 500 ft of exiting the loop a young bear cub walked right by me, he being chased by three rangers ! The cub was just casually ambling along, but he scooted quickly away when the one ranger got after him ! Wish I had had my camera along. thanks & G'day.

The Rocky Spur is off of the Rainbow Trail about 1/2 mile from the junction with The Bullhead Trail.
