It is time for Chris and I to head down the mountain for some rest and relaxation. Who am I kidding, we are going to be working down there as well. We will be setting up for the Gatlinburg Farmers Market on Saturday. I am sure you all are going to enjoy Nathan's tales while we are gone. He has a gift for spinning a yarn. We are treated to some of his stories every now and again. This year, the crew has been enjoying "Radio Night". Pat and Jeanie have been recording old radio shows through their satellite radio. The crew sits around and listens to them with great amusement. Some of you may remember "Dragnet", "Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar", and the "The Fat Man". These are the shows they are listening to. It is just one of the many ways the crew enjoys being on the mountain for eight and half months. They are making memories that will last a life time.
Yesterday turned out to be a day in the clouds. We were covered all day. The high was only 53º with a low of 45º. We were told the sun was making an appearance below, but the clouds never gave way for us. It is a different day today. The sky is blue and the sun is shining. It will be a great day for a hike up the mountain. Old radio broadcasts, eh !? Now that brings back lots of memories. I've often considered bringing my worldband Grundig radio with me during a lodge stay, but somehow having that device is a bit counter to the purpose for which I come to begin with. FOr me it distracts from the peaceful atmosphere. Yet, I can certainly understand how this is a welcome activity during the tenure of the crew up there. I suppose I might bring one of my radios on my next trip; it'd be worth it to see how good the reception is on the mountain. Sure would love to be there this very moment, finishing another pleasant breakfast which is my favorite meal at the lodge. G'day

Last Wednesday I was only going to hike as far as Inspiration Point, but something made me keep going and I eventually made it to clifftop and the lodge. It was my second visit and it again confirmed in my mind how special Mt.LeConte is. Thanks for the lemonade and the friendly conversation. And as one who works in radio, I also love listening to those old radio shows.

Morning all, from that picture it looks like Chris"s weed eater could use a workout as well. My gal and I are tweaking for the mountain, we will have to come up soon.

Hey Ryan La! Hope you are doing well. Come on up. I just hiked it yesterday, and as usual it was great to be out there on my favorite mountain. Nice and cool too! Hope to see you again on the mountain. I wasn't intending to post any further comments here today, but since those of this morning it's been on my mind how crowded all the trails throughout the Park must be getting, with schools out for the summer and all. It brings to my mind that safety is of the utmost importance especially when it concerns youngsters who may be out hiking with their parents and others. But I refrain from writing a lot about this here, but have addressed it a bit on my own site. It's just that 45 years ago I shared in a very tragic trail disappearance which will forever haunt me. With that said, be safe everyone ! G'day

I bet those old radio shows add a little something to the feel of the place. You're living in an awesome site, that was built way back when those shows were going on. Before even! So they kind of "fit in". I've seen the old TV shows where the family finishes all the chores and at the end of the day they all gather around the big ole' radio, kids laying on the floor, and they listen to the program. Sounds kind of cool! Something different!! I would love to be up on that mountain doing that. :) Comments are closed.
