Good morning folks,

Its a windy partly cloudy morning up top! The high yesterday was a spring like 42 degrees. The overnight low was a measly 21 degrees, compared to the bitter cold temps we have seen. It was 30 degrees at 7am observation. The mountain received 0” of precipitation but that is sure to change later today with rain in the forecast. Our current snow depth is 4”. No!!!! I love seeing all the snow! Traction devices are a must! Pack your best rain gear it will be a wet afternoon. Remember folks the lodge is closed for day hikers services!!

What a weekend! Blue skies dominated the mountain with warm temperatures gives us a reminder that Spring is upon us. I spent most of yesterday wondering around the mountain peaks soaking up the sun with great conversations with day hikers. With less than a week on the mountain I’m taking full advantage of everything that Mt.LeConte has to offer! Being from Maryville, TN I’m just a hop, skip, and a uphill climb to the lodge. My love for the mountains doesn’t end here. I am going on my 3rd season with the National Park Service Trail Crew based in Cades Cove my 2nd favorite place in the park. My love for the mountains and these trails make me appreciate everything the Smokies have done for my soul! The Smokies are my home and I will cherish them forever!! I am a blessed man!
Have a wonderful day everyone.
SEE YOU AT THE TOP!

I visited with a trail crew on Gregory's Bald last June 21st. Were you part of that crew? Mule Train was on the mountain.

It has been close to 40 years since I trekked up to LeConte. It is one of the most beautiful places in the Smokies. I loved staying up there on top of ole smokie & hope to do it again in the near future.
I love your posts & pictures!! Please keep up the good work & keep your head in the clouds!

Jim, I wish you well on your return to Le Conte. Lots of us would be interested in your perspective after 40 years. When you make the hike, let me know, and I'd like to write about it. Blessings, Tom Layton (LeConteLog@gmail.com)
