March.  20. 2016. Lack of excitement

3/20/2016

UPDATE: As of 11:30 am EST, we are receiving flurries. It is extremely slick out there so be careful!

We received .22 inches of rain and a chilly overnight of 22 after a day of 40 degree weather. Needless to say the frost around camp is slicker than an otter playing in an oil well.

We have no snow.
It's a terrible letdown, but we will survive.

It's supposed to snow tonight, but we are cynical this morning

We open tomorrow everybody! Come see us for LeConte's hot cocoa, shirts, and of course, us!

Here's our crew for this year!

Welcome to the adventure of a lifetime! Looking forward to meeting each of you through the blog, and (hopefully) several summits.

You have me giggling this morning! (I'm known to have an occasional problem with those giggles.) The person who wrote the blog sounds like me when you're expecting snow and you don't get it! Bummer! What a let down! And that was supposed to be a powerful storm dumping snow in the Appalachians! Anyway...I hope you all have a fun season up top and I will see you all, for a couple of nights this time, later this year!

Tom from Alabama.....I went back and looked at that
t-shirt design from 2010. It was nice and I noticed it did have a different elevation for the lodge than the more recent designs, and for the actual mtn. elev. But, it was not exactly what I was thinking of. I was thinking of just a simple silhouette of Mt. LeConte with the picture of the lodge in the foreground or printed just below the place where it sits on the mountain. Then the elevation printed above the lodge and below the mtn. The elevation is not an issue with me at all. I just love being on LeConte. But, I realize it is an issue for others, and maybe the design would please everyone! Then every year other graphics could be added along with the above simple design.

BTW, I like the bear design. Especially how the "I" in I hiked it is actually the bear's eye! To each his own. Ya'll have a beautiful day!

Welcome!
It looks like all your dreams are coming true up there tonight. Rangers reported 2-3 inches of snow at Newfound Gap a while ago, and white out conditions. The snow line starts at Chimneys Picnic. Cherokee Orchard Road is currently closed at the boundary. Newfound Gap Road(441) is closed from Gatlinburg to Cherokee, so you all are socked in for now. Let us know if anyone is hiking out either way in the morning.
We look forward to hearing your snow depth reading in the morning!

Bet you have snow in the morning! They have closed the road through the park from Cherokee to Gatlinburg because of "3 inches of snow"!!!!!
