March 21st, 2014

3/21/2014

After a few scheduling conflicts, the helicopter showed up around 3 pm yesterday. We were able to fly for a couple of hours. The plan for this morning is start as soon as the sun peeks over the horizon. Thank goodness the weather forecast looks spectacular. It is pretty chilly this morning. The low was 21º with a high of 39º.

As for trail conditions, there are still some patches of ice, but we have seen a lot of dayhikers and they seem to have had no problems. The trails may be a little muddy, but I am guessing the sun helped a lot over the past couple of days. Remember, if you are hiking up for the day, we are not open yet. Please bring any snacks you may want  with you. There is water available at the spring located a few yards down Trillium Gap Trail.

The video is not working for me. Maybe it's my computer. Anyone else have trouble viewing?

I always wondered where the helicopter landed. Can't wait for our August reservations to get here so we can get there!

Enjoyed your video and this signals the start of the season. Question, do you track the number of visitors including day hikers?

Monday, your first day open, will be a perfect day to hike to the lodge for the night simply because I have new gaters, ice clips for the new broken in boots, new wool socks, hand and feet warmers, a new light weight pack and three months of extra work outs . With my luck all this preparation just guarantees an extra warm day Monday. Better get your sun tan lotion ready,

When did helicopters start being used and before that were all the supplies brought up by llamas or horses (begining of season)

Fred the llamas are still used 3 days a week , the helicopter is bringing the bulk of the supplies and the large gas bottles .
