Sunset from last night.
It is a windy day on the mountain. Our overnight low was 32 and yesterday's high reached 52. Today is a little chilly, in the lower 40's and the day started out in a cloud, but things are starting to blow off and the sky is turning blue. Even as I'm typing the sun is peaking through my skylight!

And now, the 2015 LeConte Lodge Christmas ornament!

That is a gorgeous sunset! I really like the design of the Christmas ornament. When I was reading the inscription, I thought I recognized the name of the wood shop. It turns out that Tim Weberding and his family hail from southeastern Indiana, where I am originally from. His dad and uncles still run a wood carving shop in Batesville, IN. I had no idea that he had opened up a shop in Gatlinburg. Their whole family does good quality work.

I plan to make it back down to the Smokies sometime in June or July. Don't know if I will make it up to Leconte or not, but I definitely plan to do some backpacking on the park trails. My father and I ventured down to the Smoky Mountains at least once per summer, and we each have over 20 years of backpacking experience, with 3 of those visits involving an overnight stay at the shelter near the summit of Leconte. Keep up the good work at the lodge. You all are doing a great job!

That's why the Weberding name is so familiar to me. I have lived most of my life in the South but out of college I lived and worked for about a year in Batesville... and yes, that area is known for its woodworking.

That's neat that you spent some time in Batesville. I grew up in that area, and then lived and worked for a couple of summers in east Tennessee back in the late 90's. Now I live in central Illinois where it is extremely flat. I cannot wait to visit the mountains this summer :-)

WOW...what a beautiful shot of the cabin and sunset high up top! Our first stay at LeConte is a little over two months away and each daily blog brings my excitement to new heights. Looking forward to meeting all of you and sharing a little slice of heaven. Cannot wait to sit in my rocking chair on my front porch and just take it all in!

I love the ornament, love the pic, and can't wait to spend the night up there again (just a couple short weeks away for us)!!! The hike is beautiful - I'm from flat IL, but thankfully now live in Knoxville - beautiful Tennessee!! Can't wait to see this year's t-shirt design & will love when they make a women's cut with the design centered (instead of on 1 side of the chest). See you soon!

Great photo Ruthie--you should make a calendar for 2016. You are a great photographer!! You are doing a fantastic job as manager already. The all around feeling is very positive and much needed. Welcome and best wishes!

The censorship is becoming a little too heavy-handed for my tastes on this blog. I didn't see anything that warranted deleting -- just a reasonable debate about the controversy over the elevation listed for the lodge. But of course, Stokely Hospitality Enterprises is the corporate entity controlling this show, so lets keep all the conversation nice. Nice 2015 Christmas ornament. I hope you make a killing with it.

I missed the discussion/controversy over the elevation of the lodge. For whatever it is worth I just noticed that according to my handheld GPS that I used on our hike up top on 3/24 showed the lodge elevation at 6472 ft and the Alum Cave trail elevation gain to be 2762ft. No matter the elevation numbers ... Leconte Lodge is a 10

Ruthie looks like you and your crew are doing a good job. When we meet you last year we were sure you would do fine running the lodge. You were so nice to us. Hope to get to TN again this year and hike up and say hi.
