March. 30. 2016. And then some

3/30/2016

After a chilly 41 afternoon and chilly 32 night,we are treated to clear skies and pulsating stars.

While doing camp yesterday we were treated to a jam session going down in the office, musicians are highly appreciated up here!

There's a rescue going on down Alum so if you are hiking up or down that way please wait for them to direct you.

Please look out for your fellow hikers! Just because the ice is gone doesn't mean you should lose caution. If you ever come across an injury on the trail notify other hikers and park staff so the word can get around and get them off the trail asap!

I saw a person hiking up Alum in Chacos the other morning and on my way up people were almost running down the trail. All it takes is one good fall and all of a sudden its a bad day.Be safe.

Kudos to the musician who is in the process of writing and composing a Mt. LeConte song .... Was very enjoyable to be able to listen to the song in the works! Watch for it on YouTube ... I believe it's to be called "A Day on LeConte."

Kudos to the crew! Please remember to bring up tip money, the crew really does an amazing g job of taking care of everyone! For those unsure of making the hike up. if you have trouble on uneven ground at your house, you might want to rethink making the hike to the top. There were 2 people needing rescued yesterday - it is true hiking, not a paved trail! You are in the wilderness, people rescuing you are putting themselves at risk.

Is there a prediction of snow with current storm? How are trails with heavy rain?

Thanks!

Thanks for posting a picture of the office and gathering room today. I love the skylights and for some reason don't remember them when we were in there this past October. I only took a couple of pictures while we were up there. The weather was kind of rough, that night especially, and the next day when we hiked down.

Are the skylights new? I don't remember them either, but I like them. Who is the cook this year?

I forgot to say, seems like you all sometimes have some interesting people staying up at the lodge. The night we were there, an entire NASCAR pit crew, who had just finished the weekend at Talladega, were staying at the lodge. They were so much fun to visit with and when they passed us on the trail, getting to hang out with them was part of my motivation to make it to the top. Heck, I even offered to pay them to pack me the rest of the way up!

Sorry I missed the jam session yesterday. I saw the lady lying on the trail on my way up yesterday. She was being well taken care of while awaiting her rescue. I so enjoyed visiting the llamas. I got some great pix of them. Loved talking with all the spring breakers I met on the trail yesterday to. Just an awesome day it was!!!! The workers are doing a great job on restoring Alum. I got to meet a lot of crew yesterday that were doing some surveying.

I will never be able to thank you all enough for your help in my rescue. Yep, that was me on the trail. Well I was so disappointed I didn't make it to the top – I trained for months – I was delighted to meet so many of you. Shout out to the kindest people on earth. I am still trying to find help the names of all of you that you helped! Best to Bryan and Walter, into the lovely lady who offered to snuggle with me because I was freezing cold. And others I've met by email and Facebook. Don't worry, I'll be training more and I'll be back!
