Hello down there! We are having another beautiful day up here. It feels as if spring is here to stay. Lets hope!! The bears have finally made it to camp so I couldn't think of a better opportunity to chit chat about them. So...what to say? Well, this is their home, we are the visitors. Its very important to give them space and make sure you do not leave packs unattended. They will snatch it up as if it was a pic-a-nic basket. The more comfortable they become around people the more dangerous they are. The llamas just arrived so I'm going to keep this short. Really quick, yesterday's high was 58 and the low was 33 degrees. It is currently 54 degrees under overcast skies. Hike safe and be vigilant. Peace

It's important to point out that bears have a sense of smell well over 2,000 greater than us humans -- and they're very smart! Smarter than the most intelligent dog you've ever known (and most of the current field of candidates for the 2016 presidential election.)

It's my soul purpose in life to spread laughter wherever I go, Norman. Of course, more times than not, I inspire raised eyebrows. : )

Maybe it's your soul's sole purpose!

I've seen "soul purpose" used on occasion, now that I think about it -- and not by accident. I could have just left it alone and hopefully it would have construed as an attempt at being deep.

Not Ruthie. I really enjoy it when other bloggers identify themselves when taking over update duty.

C. Brown, this is actually Brian, not Ruthie. You can tell cause Brian always starts his posts with a jovial "Hello down there!"

So far I'm leaning toward voting for the bear !! Being from Kentucky some people say I'm from the North, others say from the South. Personally, it really doesn't matter to me for I identify more with just being from the mountains and loving the mountains, especially the Smokies. However, I did serve a tour in the Confederate Air Force; I'd never take off from the north end of the runway ! G'day all and remember during this hiking season that no matter where you go, there you are !

Doug, what did you fly in the Confederate Air Force ( Commemorate Air Force)? I think Brian is from Iowa. HAGD

Doug, as a fellow Bluegrass native, I've experienced the same border identity crisis. I grew up near the TN border in West KY, so I associate historically with the South. The funny thing... I had friends in Louisville, and when I was younger, I thought they talked "Northern". Then, I went to college in the Indianapolis area, and within 3 months these same friends were talking "Southern". It's all in the perspective. When my wife and I were going up Alum last month, we talked for a while with a couple who was from upstate Wisconsin. THEY were definitely talking "Midwest/northern" accent! Norman,I am so sorry with the mix up.I had Brad on my mind all this time when I read the d.p.while Ruthie is on days off.Guess I am so excited that we have a Mississippi guy that likes Mt.Leconte and the Smokies as well as us.We spent 4-25-May 1 in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge and had a blast. We did several hikes but no long ones this time.Wanted to see if I could find Allyson and Chris but didn't know where to start. If someone could tell me I would appreciate very much because we will be there in Sept.and Nov.

There should be a special package for Ruthie and the crew from a grateful couple. I assume it will be delivered on Thursday's lama run unless Ruthie hiked it up yesterday. Comments are closed.
