Good Afternoon, After paying our dues last weekend, the sun is spoiling us with its rich rays and desirable warmth. Given the return of spring-like temperatures and the smell of freshly cut grass, you'd think a few days ago was just a bad dream. We've already hit 65 degrees today and everyone is soaking up the sunshine, from guests to day hikers to crew. We managed to tag 60 degrees for a high yesterday, and our overnight temps are now hanging out in the 40's. Will we see the 30's anymore until the fall? It's anyone's guess at this point. The NPS maintenance crews continue to chip away at cleaning up Roaring Fork. Until we receive official word of its reopening, please continue to take advantage of trails like Alum Cave, The Boulevard, and Brushy Mountain. Cherokee Orchard is accessible to Smokies' visitors, and of course Rainbow Falls will be open to use Friday - Sunday.
Tomorrow should be another gorgeous day to play outside, but Friday and Saturday are calling for a strong chance of storms, so come prepared for the elements if you are hoping to hike up and drop in on the lodge. The week after appears to show an encore of abundant sunshine. We're observing more critters rambling around camp these days. There are several deer that have joined the crew as locals on the mountain. The juncos, finches, and robins are zipping about in greater numbers. And the red squirrels are incredibly active and rambunctious. As cute as they are, please don't feed them, even that adorable little dude pictured above, because it doesn't take long for them to become a nuisance. Thanks! Have a great middle of the week.
