Good Morning!

Another cool breezy night and warm inviting morning as we continue to anticipate the rain. Dandelions (though a weed) are blooming and bringing color to the mountain. We have enjoyed the sounds of birds chirping as the sun rises and sets, and yes, have enjoyed the squirrels as well. Just a friendly reminder, please do not feed any wildlife in the park including the squirrels. If we stay on top of keeping food away from them, they won’t be such an overwhelming presence in the summer time!

Recently, Allison’s mom brought us a Spam Can Banjo to add to our repertoire of instruments on the mountain and here’s a video of Heather playing it! Can you name that tune??

I love the song, its fun and familiar. However, a few years back I hiked the AT from Fontana to Newfound Gap. That route took me directly across Rocky Top and as I recall you'd be hard pressed to put a pool table up there let alone a building around it. Every time I hear the song I smile at the wondrous contrast with reality it is and how fun it is to believe!

I love Spam. I love the Spam can banjo. And since I'm a part-time Tennessean living in Gatlinburg, I love Rocky Top too! I just wish I could actually hike up to Rocky Top. I would get too pooped out!
