Good Afternoon,
What’s that bright and glowing orb in the sky? Why, it’s the sun! And it might actually get a chance to stick around and show out for a while this week. For the most part, the initial storm threats this past weekend turned out to be nothing-burgers, and folks visiting the Smokies got to enjoy mostly pleasant weather. Things have only improved as we roll into the new week. Skies today are mostly clear, bright blue, and satisfyingly sunny for a change, and this trend is expected to last past midweek. It’s a foreign concept for anyone who has tackled Mt. LeConte this month, but we might actually get treated to consecutive days sans precip. And people certainly are taking notice, with lots of eager hikers hitting the trails early and often today. Temps have warmed a tad, slowly feeling more summer-like at 6593’ the closer to June we get. Expect the thermometer to wobble between lower 50s and mid 60s this week. Any breeze is a welcome relief to that unavoidable southern humidity now. Afternoon pop-up showers remain a possibility, but more in line with a brief, low percentage misting than say a mighty cold front-driven gully washer. So have the essential gear handy, but plan on putting that wide-brimmed hat and sunscreen to greater use. Have a great day.
