Good Afternoon!

Temps are staying warm (50s-60s) and bring continuous sunshine and life to the mountain. As we head into the weekend, we will receive rain and thunderstorms beginning overnight and continuing through Saturday and Sunday. Remember those waterproof layers and enjoy the warm weather!

Our favorite tree! During one of our visits an older man was sitting at the top of the tree. I’m a momma and all I could think was how far away the hospital was. Kids love this tree for the stair style branches.

Awesome views from the dinning room porch, on May 1st, my wife and I and a friend and his son sat and ate our lunch on the porch enjoying the views, before continuing on to Myrtle pt and Cliff Tops. Thanks for the great hospitality, from the four of us now back in Michigan.

I've mentioned Leconte Lodge to many people and often I am asked what sort of gear and clothing should be worn when going up there. It's difficult to give an answer that satisfies every inquiry. When reading again my original autographed copy of "Camping and Woodcraft" by Horace Kephart I came across this paragraph written by him: "In a wild country one soon learns that the difference between comfort and misery, if not health and illness, may depend upon whether he is properly clad. Proper in this case, does not mean modish, but suitable, serviceable, proven by the touchstone of experience to be best for the work or play that is in hand. When you seek a guide in the mountains he looks first in your eyes, and then at your shoes. If both are right, you are right." I thought that these words certainly hold much truth. For me, my hiking boots have always been the most important item of gear that I possess. Each person should find out through experience what is right for him. G'day.
