May.15.2016. Brrrrrrrr!

5/15/2016

The night was surprising!

An overcast 44 turned to a freezing 22!

We are all ready for a warm sunny day.

Hopefully a sign for the day
Pack warmly!

The llamas are gracing us with their presence today, come and see them!

Did it snow up there? It looks like snow from Gatlinburg.

I saw that too. It was either snow or a really heavy layer of frost.

up and down yesterday - boulevard and alum, sadly, no bear sightings but holy smoke, if you haven been on alum lately you got a surprise coming. especially at arch rock. all it needs is electricity for the escalator. the trail crew has really out done themselves - outstanding. lots of new steps built and cut into the rocks up and down the trail.

I was told that Alum Cave would be open on Monday, May 30. So I arranged transportation from Newfound Gap to the Alum Cave parking lot so we can hike up Alum Cave on Monday and back down Boulevard on Tuesday.

I went up Alum and back for a wonderful hike today. A bit chilly in the 20's when I arrived about 845 but enjoyed every minute of it. No bear sighting, but was glad to see Tim Line up there in the office. Good talking to you Tim! In the 4 yrs I have hiked Alum I have not seen one bear on that trail. Happy Trails everyone.
