Rain! Rain everybody! This week, it's happening. At least it didn't freeze last night, 52 turned to 33 and it seemed warm and kindly. We had a bunch of fun guests last night, one of whom had separation anxiety towards his protein bars.
It's ok though, the mice didn't get them. Thanks a lot, Bearbait, for all your...hospitality on the trail....? Bring your rain stuff, guys!

Do you hear the old man snoring? Flying out of Austin this evening.....can't wait to be in the Smokies! I'm gettin' giddy! I just wish we weren't bringing this rain with us! Have a beautiful day up there!

Ryn, me and the family had a wonderful 2 day stay this weekend at the lodge. Thanks for providing the clear and cool weather. Bearbait and I contemplated doing a quick day hike back up the mountain this morning to surprise you, but it's raining down here in the berg so we are heading out back home. But beware - Bearbait is already planning on another hike up to the lodge. Many thanks again.

A rainy day on Mt. LeConte is better than a sunny day in Gatlinburg.

Protein Bar Separation Anxiety... I don't think I have seen that diagnosis anywhere before. However, there are times I have taken my backpack off during a hike and had a fleeting thought of what I would do if it suddenly fell hundreds of feet down into a ravine!

elktonbrant-I saw that very thing happen a few years ago at Alum Cave Bluff. My wife and I were resting under the Bluff and we saw a young man roll his backpack from the wooden railing down toward his family who were on the trail below. They didn't know it was coming-we hollered at them and some other people on the trail, but the backpack rolled off the trail and then "hundreds of feet down into a ravine." To matters worse the backpack was camouflage in color-the young man and another family member went down into the ravine to look for it. We asked if we could help in anyway, but the young man seemed confident that they would find it-we left to go back down, but don't know if the backpack was ever found.

I had an awesome day hike to the top on Saturday. It was my third trip. Got my t-shirt and enjoyed some hot chocolate at the lodge. I was glad I was dressed for cool weather. I met a lot of nice people and the staff were all friendly. As soon as my calf muscles recover, I'll be ready to go back. Comments are closed.
