momma, here comes midnight with the dead moon in it's jaws.

I want to go soon and live away by the pond, where I shall hear only the wind whispering among the reeds. It will be success if I shall have left myself behind. But my friends ask what I will do when I get there. Will it not be employment enough to watch the progress of the seasons? Thoreau
_Morning,

The mountain is in a whirling cloud right now. I heard my first thunder of the season a little while ago. The overnight temperature rose unusually to 46 degrees last night with the arrival of this nasty storm system. The low yesterday was 41 degrees. It was 46 degrees and raining at 7am observation this morning. Be careful on the trails today, folks.

I had my first hike up Rainbow yesterday afternoon. There are still a few minor blowdowns, but the trail is in good condition. I've seen every trail except Trillium and would recommend Rainbow or Alum for anyone looking to hike up. Bullhead is in nasty shape and Boulevard's 8 miles & Trillium's 9 miles drag on longer than you'd like for these short days. It looks like today will be the first of many indoor days of my caretaking season, as it's quite nasty out. I'm really looking forward to my neglected domestic pleasures - making pizza dough, drinking coffee, doing yoga and core workouts to stave off physical boredom, reading books, writing letters, and resting my legs for another  week of phenomenal hiking. Tough life!

could you talk more about the domestic things you - I'm sure there's maintenance, projects, interesting cooking, etc, that we might find interesting. Glad to hear you do yoga & core workouts. Maybe include what books your reading? Websites you go to (if you can do that)? Stuff you do to stave off boredom? As well as maybe some of the fun or funny stuff you do to keep your mind occupied?

why do I ask these things? Many people live solitary lives, even if they live in big cities, small towns, mountain communities, or at the beach. What you include in your life may help them.

just a thought...

I love hearing your plans. Many of those things are things I dream of doing today. Enjoy your free moments in nature's glory.

Perhaps you can just install a JPCam and we can watch you ALL THE TIME, like that panda cam at the National Zoo. Just kidding. Sort of. ;)

There'd be a lot of 'watching someone read'.

Tough life indeed! Enjoy your domestic chores. Sometimes its just nice to stay inside and do all the inside stuff. The weather forces us to do that sometimes.

The weather on LeConte is comparable to central Kentucky. We are in our third consecutive day of rain, but the temperature is too warm for snow.

Tough life JP, I have been standing outside in the wind and rain just to get away from this desk. All the while daydreaming I am on a trail to the top. A hike in the wet, windy weather is still better to me than a dry, calm desk job. Have a great day!!!!!

Reading your notes makes me want to bring you some tea. Memphis is kinda a hike. Like your pictures, some can translate into great water colors. Vagan (trail name)

Must be the Big Star about to fall.

God, please bring Jason back soon.
