Morning,
We had another mild night. It only got down to 36 yesterday. The high was 39 and it was 38 and socked in at Observation. The snow finally melted up top, but there may still be some ice on the trail. I have a feeling I'm not going to see too many folks today. We're supposed to get some nasty rain tomorrow, so be prepared for some weather. I had a productive 'inside' day yesterday. I read for the majority of the day. I perfected my corn bread and hot cocoa. I was able to do my laundry for the first time since I got up here and took a sponge bath. I feel like I could go to a dinner party or something. A quick thanks to the folks from Lexington, KY who were staying up at the shelter last night. They were kind enough to pick me up some fresh blueberries and even looked for a Sunday NYT! I appreciate the effort, guys. I'm consistently blown away by how hospitable everyone down South has been. Have a safe hike, everyone!

Good meeting you this weekend. I was up at the shelter Saturday night. I will be attempting to get up there again this winter...maybe in January. I'll let you know in advance. If there is a better way to contact you let me know. If you’re ever make it out to the Big South Fork NRRA look me up. Take it easy.

It doesn't look like we're going to be getting any of the snowy weather we were hoping for next week while we are up there from the 11th-16th. I'm hoping (even though it might lead to some rough weather for you!) that this storm blowing through this week will atleast leave some snow up in the higher elevations for our hikes.

It is truly amazing how the clouds just set over the top of LeConte each day like hat on someone's head. I watch everyday with ahhh and wonder if you're ok up there. Glad you let us know.Hang in there ! Hope you get some visitors soon after the rains. :-)

Even the Mamas and Papas would have a hard time getting excited with the weather today. Looks more like a Carpenters day today.

@ Devin.... Hiking Trails of the Great Smoky Mountains by Kenneth Wise is a great hiking guide book for the off the beaten path trails. I've posted a pic of the book over in the LeConte forum. People can be very kind and gererous. But I find hiking people are the best and always willing to share a story or their food with you. I've told my husband I want to go work a summer up there. We would never be lonely for people. You may not get to town too much, but a little bit of town comes to you. Comments are closed.
