Monsoon Season??

5/5/2013

The songs of a rustic lodge acted as my alarm clock this morning. The lodge was alive with windows banging, floors creaking, and the walls moaning. It is days like this I wish we had a wind gauge. Just walking to the bathroom is a physical workout. Chris witnessed a junco trying to fly into the wind and instead of going straight, it was flying sideways. Needless to say, that made Chris chuckle.
I was a bit worried that we may wake up to snow. It never reached above 38º yesterday and last night's low was 32º. The mountain received 1.67" of rain yesterday and it is still coming down. I am sure the rivers are swelling in the valley. It is going to be a great day for reading.

I thought I would post a couple of pictures of the items we are selling up top. We have some awesome new items for those of you who have been coming up year after year. Guaranteed you will find something that you have not seen in the years passed.

If you are hiking today, please make sure you are well prepared to get wet. With the wind blowing like it is, there is no way to stay dry. Just make sure you have plenty of warm clothing to change into at the top. Be safe and see you on the mountain. We will have plenty of hot cocoa and coffee waiting on you.

I just looked on your website. My husband likes the hoodies and wears them all the time. But I would love to see one in a zip up sweatshirt. I'm not a hoodie person. I would buy one of them for sure. Any chance for next year a zip up sweatshirt with a hood on it? Thanks!

Ditto Debbie, I don't like the pull-over ones either

Group of us are leaving georgia now for a hike up this afternoon. Raining here and expect it to continue. Looking forward to drying off and drinking some hot chocolate later. Gotta a lot of miles to go before that happens.

I would love to see all items sold at LeConte Lodge Made in USA. I wanted a coffee mug in the past, but they were Made in China so I would not buy. I, for one, would pay more for any USA made item.
And, I can sure hear the wind howling from our house On Cosby, can't imagine what it is like up there!! Stay safe, fly sideways if needed.

"Fly Sideways if Needed"......I like that. Sounds like the motto for the mountain this year.

Sure is a lot of cold weather up there. I hope it warms up with less rain by the end of the month. I'd like to hike up the mountain in the sunshine! Spoiled... from Florida.

The kerosine lamp isn't for sale? Bummer! Alright, it might be a bit heavy -- and fragile -- to pack out, but it would be pretty cool to have one at home to remind one of the mountain. Would be great for summer evenings on the patio.

My April trip to LeConte will have to do me for awhile, it looks like. Do to circumstances beyond my control, I probably won't make it back this year -- maybe not for two years. Ahh well.

Careful hiking in that wind, everyone. Later.

I get excited every time i read these creative descriptions of the conditions and surroundings on the mountain. So much i had to search for a flying junco picture hehe. http://img0.etsystatic.com/000/0/5537147/il_fullxfull.284856056.jpg

Couldn't see the front of the cap very well, but it's definitely an item I want. I'll vote for the regular hoodies. Give me a pair of blue jeans, a pull-over hoodie, a pocket t-shirt, cap, and an old pair of high-top Converse All Star tennis shoes and I'm the very essence of sartorial perfection ! Of course, some might call me a bum or a hippie, neither of which I am but might resemble. It took me years to get away from wearing blue jeans when out hiking, but I subscribe to the new gear these days and am glad I do. Right now I'm beginning to worry a lot about my knee which seems to be getting worse each week; Age and lots of use I'm sure. Loved the photo of the llamas keeping a watchful eye on that deer.
