The lonely llama troughs. Instead of sunshine and warm weather, the mountain received 1 1/2" of new snow. We are back up to 8 1/2" of snow on the ground. Weather conditions are making a llama trip seem further and further away. We are still waiting on a resupply. We have our fingers crossed that it will happen today. If the weather forecast is correct, temperatures should start getting warmer and the clouds should move out. Updated trail closures: Rainbow and Bullhead are open. Cherokee Orchard road is open and the trailheads are open. Trillium Gap trail head (Grotto Falls) is still closed and will remain closed until May. There was a reported rock slide, on 441 past Newfound Gap going toward Cherokee, yesterday. The last update I received was the park service was going to close the road last night to finish any clean up and the road would be open this morning. Please check with the park service for any updated information.

Our party of 9 spent Saturday night with you and had a great time as usual. We came down in the wind and rain Sunday morning and really appreciate Chris and the others that shoveled the trail off Saturday. Without that effort, the trip down would have been really interesting.

Doug's wealth of winter snow has carried over into the spring to share with the rest of you all. I'm sure it's making some interesting hiking memories. Just wondering..what is the latest date of snowfall recorded on Leconte? Love your blog!!

Thank you very much for the trail updates. We're planning to use the Bullhead... is there still significant snow on the north side?

I think the temps may crawl upward as the week progresses; here in London, Ky I cut my grass for the second time, so, maybe the weather will be relatively warm this weekend, even at altitude on LeConte; I'm preparing to hike in snow regardless. Enjoy it. But, I hope things clear up so the llamas can begin their trips. I was wondering what time of day they generally arrive at the lodge when they do come. Looking forward to meeting some new folks Sunday evening. Does the lodge office need a chess set ? I could bring one to leave for the rec room. Comments are closed.
