You say you have 3 feet which I believe but the Moutain Weather site showed 3 or 4 inches yesterday and shows nothing now. Guess I shouldn't trust that site. Coming up next Monday. Hopefully we'll make it.

The photos say it all !! I'd love to be the first hiker to step along those trails, unbroken and undisturbed by footprints, with every step wondering how deep the next step will be, letting my mind focus on the whiteness surrounding me, and every breath a fresh intake of clear mountain air ! People tell me that I shouldn't do such a dangerous thing as hiking and they're usually speaking of warm weather trekking, let alone pursuing that passion in wintery conditions. If I never take risks, I might as well let them go ahead and cremate me and spread my ashes off of Cliff tops !! If I meet my creator while following a trail anywhere the first thing I'll do is show my appreciation for having been able to walk amongst nature's glorious wonders, and I have always done so in awe with much humility. When they find me, they will see the smile on my face, the last emotion I'll ever express. I do, however, take great care when out on the trail and I cannot help but have concern for those going to and from the lodge during this early snowfall. Do be cautious folks !!

We have been following this blog all day. There are four of us heading up tomorrow. We have the gear and the mountain hiking experience. We also share Doug's passion for being out in nature. On the other hand, we will wait to gather more information on the trails and weather in the morning before proceeding. We have Halloween treats to deliver to the crew! Hope to see you at the top tomorrow.

Wow its so beautiful. I wish I could have made it. My 30th birthday was yesterday and due to my work schedule I wasnt able to make it since 441 was closed. I wouldnt have made it any earlier than the morning of the 29th. I was so heartbroken. I came up last year on Oct 29th and it was beautiful snow. I planned for 3 months to do it this year for my 30th and my bf and I were all set. He didnt think he could handle any other trail but alum cave so we didnt go. We're gonna try again November 11th so I hope its still just as pretty.

newfound gap nws observation reported 17 inches of snow today, and Leconte ALWAYS bests them (higher and more favorable for upslope) so there is no question since the storm started monday and it's now wed early am...that you have around 3 feet so far.

Absolutely gorgeous pics! Sure would love to be up there right now!! I think the most snow we've hiked in up there was around 6". Have been on Mt. Cammerer with about 2 feet of snow...it was gorgeous!! If you are hiking up in these conditions, please heed Allyson's advice and be well prepared. Safe hiking everyone :)
