You say you have 3 feet which I believe but the Moutain Weather site showed 3 or 4 inches yesterday and shows nothing now. Guess I shouldn't trust that site. Coming up next Monday. Hopefully we'll make it.

Luv the pics..Stay warm and safe..Wished I was up there I would be out taking pictures and enjoying every minute of it ..
The photos say it all !! I'd love to be the first hiker to step along those trails, unbroken and undisturbed by footprints, with every step wondering how deep the next step will be, letting my mind focus on the whiteness surrounding me, and every breath a fresh intake of clear mountain air ! People tell me that I shouldn't do such a dangerous thing as hiking and they're usually speaking of warm weather trekking, let alone pursuing that passion in wintery conditions. If I never take risks, I might as well let them go ahead and cremate me and spread my ashes off of Cliff tops !! If I meet my creator while following a trail anywhere the first thing I'll do is show my appreciation for having been able to walk amongst nature's glorious wonders, and I have always done so in awe with much humility. When they find me, they will see the smile on my face, the last emotion I'll ever express. I do, however, take great care when out on the trail and I cannot help but have concern for those going to and from the lodge during this early snowfall. Do be cautious folks !!
Any reservations available???
Yes ours for THurs night. Cabin for 4. We emailed yesterday and are very much hoping someone will take it!
We are giving it a shot tomorrow. Hope we make it to the top.
Good luck let us now how the trails are. Also comment on road to your tail head. We are coming up Saturday and not sure if I need to drive my gas beast or if I can drive a economy fuel car with front wheel drive... Thanks for any info.
wow makes the 15 inches that i got in today look like a dusting
I've been trying to find snowshoes for hours I wanna summit so bad I can taste it. I love it up there but winter is the best...( no tourist)
The NOC has snowshoes, crampons and various other things. Micro spikes and yaxtrax(sp?) I was just there last night and decided to get some micro spikes.
Hoping to head up thereThursday.
My wife and I are planning on giving it a go and hike up on Thursday. If anyone would like to join us to try together let us know.
We have been following this blog all day. There are four of us heading up tomorrow. We have the gear and the mountain hiking experience. We also share Doug's passion for being out in nature. On the other hand, we will wait to gather more information on the trails and weather in the morning before proceeding. We have Halloween treats to deliver to the crew! Hope to see you at the top tomorrow.
Wow its so beautiful. I wish I could have made it. My 30th birthday was yesterday and due to my work schedule I wasnt able to make it since 441 was closed. I wouldnt have made it any earlier than the morning of the 29th. I was so heartbroken. I came up last year on Oct 29th and it was beautiful snow. I planned for 3 months to do it this year for my 30th and my bf and I were all set. He didnt think he could handle any other trail but alum cave so we didnt go. We're gonna try again November 11th so I hope its still just as pretty.
I have a reservation for one for Nov. 1 if anyone is interested.
We are a group of two going up on Saturday morning early if anyone is interested in hiking..
A friend and i are gonna try to make it up this coming saturday morning nov 3. Hopefully all the trailheads will be accessible by by car by then. Could be a lot of traffic that day, especially for winter hiking condition enthusiasts! look me up sometime. http://www.facebook.com/zenfully
Have you seen any critters on your hikes in the snow? Ty for posting these pictures!!
newfound gap nws observation reported 17 inches of snow today, and Leconte ALWAYS bests them (higher and more favorable for upslope) so there is no question since the storm started monday and it's now wed early am...that you have around 3 feet so far.
Wow! More photos. I just can't keep up. I've been changing my wallpaper at least 3 or 4 times a day. Not complaining though. Beautiful pictures.
Absolutely gorgeous pics! Sure would love to be up there right now!! I think the most snow we've hiked in up there was around 6". Have been on Mt. Cammerer with about 2 feet of snow...it was gorgeous!! If you are hiking up in these conditions, please heed Allyson's advice and be well prepared. Safe hiking everyone :)
I plan to hike boulevard on Saturday. Anyone else going that route then? Is boulevard even open?
If anyone is interested in hiking up this weekend staying in a cabin, let us know - there are 10 of us supposed to go and we may have people back out now and would sell their reservations if they don't want to risk this. Our email address is firstname.lastname@example.org. Our plans are to hike up Saturday morning at this point.
Allyson Just to let you know I will see you on Saturday. Do you guys need or want anything?
Still amazed at what a difference a week will make. Was up last wednesday and was beautiful sunny weather and now beautiful snowy weather. Great pictures. Hope everyone is well and warm. Took pic of this part of the trail last wednesday and been showing people at work what it looks like now and they are amazed.
Any idea at what altitude the snow starts? I'm sort of curious about winter fly fishing in the snow.
