Winter is here. We awoke to freezing rain mixed with snow. The weather forecast is calling for up to 6" in higher elevation thru Saturday. The high yesterday was 49 with a low of 31. It is currently snowing. Time to put on our winter clothes and stay warm.

Nice, serene photo; Like others, I wish I was up there at this very moment; Sadly, though, and due to unforeseen circumstances, I had to cancel all six of my reservation dates for 2011; Only those who have been to the lodge can understand how very hard this was for me to do; I will have to spend most of next year enjoying the photos you post here, and the comments as well. I might still be able to get a trip up, hopefully. But relinquishing those spots hurt. I do pray that you have a good off-season.

I have enjoyed reading your daily posts about life on the mountain. I go to the mountains every summer but have never been able to make the hike up to your place. Reading the posts daily gives me insight to how life is going down there. I love the mountains and hope to move there. Please keep the posts going. It helps me when I am missing it to go back and read posts. Good job with the posts.

Allyson,
We look at your pictures with longing in our hearts. We're holding out hope that the snow might make it to the valley. The big question is... how's the sledding up there?!

Took a break from raking leaves and came in to see the latest pic. WOW, it looks so calm and cozy with the lantern shining through the window. I so wish I were there in the snow instead of the leaves! Allyson, your pics are breathtaking and make me so want to be on the mountain. Once a year is not enough..I'll have to try and get a second spot. Enjoy your few remaining days there.

Love, love, love the pics! you have a good eye for camera shots. me & hubby will be making our 4th annual overnight hike on the 18th. In Nov.2008 we hiked up in knee/thigh-deep snow!(his knees,he's 6'3",my thighs,I'm 5'6".) It was a winter wonderland...everywhere you looked was a breathtaking, screensaver picture!! See y'all in 2 weeks!

Wow, we are so excited. My husband and I along with several friends will also be making the hike up the mountain on the 17th of Nov.. Just hoping for another winter wonderland like we experienced for our 1st trip in Nov 08'. It was georgeous, and for our first trip just made it that much better.
Please keep the pictures and post coming Allyson, we loved to look and read them. See y'all in 2 weeks..
P.S. Looks like we will see you too Nancy. :)

I have shared this site with my health & physical education students. We plan to hike to Mt. Leconte and back down this coming Saturday, weather permitting! Not a single one of them as ever hiked to the top or for the most part, ever hiked in the park. It's part of our adventure ed class, and it's always an adventure. Last year we brought 11 to the top in 70 degree weather on the same weekend. Stay warm, see you Saturday.
