More Snow

4/1/2011

And I thought spring was here. Just goes to show, you can't predict the weather in the Smokies. Awoke this morning to a dusting of snow and a warm 16 degrees. Yesterdays high was 37. The weather man is saying it is supposed to warm up. It will for me because I am hiking down today. Chris and I are heading down for our days off. Wish us luck, our big race is Sunday morning. Meredith will be filling in for me while I am down. I know you will enjoy the mountain thru her eyes. See you in a week. Time to go slide off this rock.

Great shot of the icy flowers. Good luck to you and Chris on Sunday. Looks like the weather in K-Town will be wonderful for a long run.

Wow! I wish I were there! 16 is a little too cold though and I'm really ready for Spring but it sure is pretty in the snow. Will the real Spring please step forward?
Allyson and Chris, have fun and be safe.

Snow, thunder, rain or wind will not stop us from coming ... I am looking forward to be back on April 3rd on our annual LeConte trip.

Unpredictable Smokies?!?! Heck, we had heavy snow falling right outside Philadelphia today. At least it wasn't really sticking. :-)

Best of luck during the race. The weather here in Knoxville should be great on Sunday. I'm working the marathon as a volunteer again this year, and I'll be looking for you guys (at mile marker #24).

Wonderful pictures, Allyson! They look even more amazing this year than last! I remember in Asheville a few years ago at the end of April that we had snow and accumulation on the ground, much to the delight of my children, so you never know when it will strike! Good luck on the race.

We will be coming up this coming Wednesday, looking forward to our big adventure! Any precautions you would recommend for the bears, who I am picturing just coming out of their resting places and very hungry! good luck on the half-marathon.
We are looking forward to meeting Meredith.

Doing Charlie's Bunion Wed. Weather is looking good for that day...so far. Ellen and Bill, bear advice: take someone you can out run. LOL
Enjoy your hike.

Hi Ellen and Bill, if you do see a bear while hiking up, you want to yell and act very big. We have been told to shake trees, throw rocks, and make a lot of noise. It has been my experience, if you do these things, the bears will scare off easily. Most of the time, you won't even see the bears. They really are more afraid of you.
