Morning has broken

5/15/2012

“The grand show is eternal. It is always sunrise somewhere; the dew is never dried all at once; a shower is forever falling; vapor is ever rising. Eternal sunrise, eternal dawn and gloaming, on sea and continents and islands, each in its turn, as the round earth rolls.”- John Muir

The sun is a welcomed site. We have missed it for the past four days. I was looking at the calendar and realized that we have had three days of sun in the past fifteen days. My "happy light" is getting some good use. The crew was inquiring about renting it if these rainy days hung around much longer. We measured about an inch and half of rain over the last 48 hours. I hope to get out and check on the sand myrtle today. I have a feeling Cliff Tops is at its peak.

P.S. for those of you asking questions about John's hikes, he has not seen the blog post yet. He does not have internet access on the mountain. As soon as I get enough juice in the computer, I intend to sit him down and ask him to address the questions.

Yes Debi- I'm just now sitting out in this hot Michigan sun eating a big dish of starfruit**!

These sunrise photos never get old and experiencing them in person is even a million times better. I checked out John's blog yesterday. Very impressive! Caution though, if viewed during work hours it will be detrimental to productivity.

Just so you know, we have still not seen the sun in Cosby. Those clouds that look so pretty in your sunrise shot are right on top of us still. We call it mountain effect clouds, they are probably in the sun in Newport and Gatlinburg. It is starting to break up, so off to the deck for lunch and a book and hopes of a sunny late afternoon.

I would have liked to have met John Muir. I agree wholeheartedly that the photos posted here never get old. They're a daily reminder of how much I love to be up there and provide me with added inspiration. I admire John's achievement of hiking all the trails in the Park, especially because the sheer logistics alone make it an admirable feat ! I wish I had made some sort of diary of all the trails I've hiked and when I finally completed every mile of them, but my memories will have to do. A magnificent place, the lodge !
