Morning Thunderstorms

6/27/2013

Picture
Mt. Laurel blooming around Inspiration Point.
Nothing like waking up to thunder and lightning. We are currently experiencing a good size thunder storm. It sounded like the noise we heard around 9:30 last night. I forgot that Dollywood has started a nightly fireworks display. You can hear it all the way up the mountain. I was too tired to step outside to check and see if you could see the show, maybe I will have the energy tonight.

It is hard to believe we are coming up on July. Mid season is just around the corner. The crew is settling in to mountain life and enjoying the simple life the mountain has to offer. It won't be long until the mountain top is exploding with color from the abundance of wild flowers that surround our mountain home.  This time next month it should be in full swing.

There was plenty of thunder and lightning here during last night, but we dodged any severe weather. While I was watchng some of the brilliant displays I was wondering if Leconte was gettng any of it. Being up there is a storm is certainly an experience not soon to be forgotten. Rob's account of how he was ill-prepared should be good reading for anyone else contemplating such a hike. As Tony Ga also stated, the temperature change by the time one reaches the top of the mountain is definitely dramatic - - it surprised me as well once. I believe it's at Inspiration Point where I've taken short rest stops and had squirrels crawl right up on my leg to get a treat; it's hard not to give them somethng but I don't. I was wondering if they're still around there ? G'day.

Morning to all up top, Hey Allyson and Chris sure hope the Lamas are careful with your package from down here. Anyone have a sweet tooth!!! Will be coming your way on the 5th of July and looking forward to talking to you about your trip across the pond. Hey Steve D. I will be parking at Rainbow, going up Alum and coming down Bullhead. A walk in the woods will ferry us to Alum, your more than welcome to hitch a ride if you wish and are still coming. I will give a time of departure from rainbow later in the week.

Sounds like you have a great hike planned, and if I miss you we will do it again another time. Right now, I plan to do the night hike on July 4th with Brian N Bama and Tony Ga if the weather cooperates. The way these storms have been hitting lately, it is hard to predict what is going to happen. If I don't make the night hike with them, then I will try to go with you. Are you going to be by yourself on your hike?

Steve D. my gal that tolerates me will accompany me on this hike. Funny thing, she had never been to Tennessee before Fall of 2011. Now she wants to go all the time and for some reason she is always in front of me on the trail with I mite add NO BACK PACK. It seems I am the Lama in the hiking party here. Still lucky though, not too many women will ride 750 miles 11and a half hours one day, hike14 miles the next day. Maybe its because we always spend the next day at the tanger outlet mall. But she's tight, and doesn't want to spend any money, so I don't really know. I best be careful, sometimes she checks out the blog.

Ryan, and a smart one too!! She gets you to carry the back pack. I've done the same thing with my husband. :) We are most likely going up and down Alum July 4th going up and coming down July 5th. I will look for the woman with no back pack and say Hello. I have the purple hiking boots. Have a great time!!

We just got down from the most beautiful place on earth. Enjoyed some wonderful food, a thunderstorm, and some great memories. The staff was outstanding and I cant wait to get back. Went up Rainbow Falls yesterday and just came down the Bullhead this morning. Only saw 2 groups of people above the falls yesterday and 1 party of 3 this morning. So nice to get away from the "traffic". Thanks for all you guys do up top!!!!!!!
