you should factor in the purpose for which you are going to use your car. Will it be your daily go-to vehicle to pick up the kids from school or will it be the weekend vehicle you're going to use for your forays into the countryside? 6/4/2013 07:35:58 pm

the Government can recognise the importance of tax cuts in an economically moribund area, why not extend those to an economically moribund country?

I'm envious of your snow. Hopefully we will get some at Top of the World this winter. I'm not in good enough health to get to where you are but hopefully my son will make it up there in the near future.

Can't believe we were just there on 25th-26th wearing shorts and short sleeves. Could not have ordered better weather for watching the sunset on 25th. Would love to be there in the snow but would not want to be hiking on some of those cliffs covered in snow and ice.Love the pics. You need to post some with the carved pumpkins sitting in the snow.

I wish you the best of luck in the coming days, the back side of Hurricane Sandy should bring some very interesting weather to the Smokies. I wonder if it will rival the pre-Memorial Day storm that hit in the early 1990,s which left 5 ft on Mt Pisgah. I look forward to your upcoming posts. I hope ya'll are staying warm.

We got about half way up this morning a little after the llamas turned back we did the same. Just did not have the time to gather the correct outerwear and footwear before the hike. Next year we will make it come snow, rain or 70 degrees.....

I am coming up and wanting to Hike Leconte Thursday and Friday. I came out in the snow several years ago and took rainbow falls up. Is there a shorter route to take, I have to make the trip to the top, esp with the 25-30" it should get. Thx, also how did you gain access to the trailheads? Roads closed?

My husband and I was up there last Janurary and there was ice on some of those trails, which we crossed over, but unfortunately we were about 10 minutes away from the top, but had to go back down, due to my knees killing me and we had to allow enough time before it got dark on us. Wished I was there to see all this, especially with all the snowfall. Hope to make it back up sometime in the nearest future.

Great pics. I wonder, since you all have no power up there and no phone service, how do you all have Internet access up there to transmit these pics from up there? Or do you all have to hike back down out of the park to transmit these? I know my cell phone doesn't work up there.

That cabin really looks cold ! I wish I was in it ! My favorite photo, though, is the one of the trail, which is now my desktop background. I wonder if you'll receive any more snow ? It'd be a marvelous time to be on the trail.
