Looks like it is time to button up! I am sure black bears are like, WHAT. WHAT, ok sleepy time NOW!!!
you should factor in the purpose for which you are going to use your car. Will it be your daily go-to vehicle to pick up the kids from school or will it be the weekend vehicle you're going to use for your forays into the countryside?

I stumbled on this site while surfing on the net. It is a great site and great listings!
the Government can recognise the importance of tax cuts in an economically moribund area, why not extend those to an economically moribund country?
It is amazing how much snow there is! It is so beautiful and mystical.
For those that will still be hiking - please be extremely safe!
I would like to thank you for your nicely written post, its informative and your writing style encouraged me to read it till end
I'm envious of your snow. Hopefully we will get some at Top of the World this winter. I'm not in good enough health to get to where you are but hopefully my son will make it up there in the near future.
Oh....I wish I was down there hiking today! thanks for sharing the beautiful pictures and keeping us all updated!
Holy smokes! What a winter wonderland before Halloween and from a hurricane no less.
Truly Awesome! Keep 'em coming...
Wish I was there!
Wow is right, it's beautiful but glad I went on the 16th.
Thanks for the report and the photographs. Today is my birthday, and these pictures are a beautiful gift!
Allyson, all I can say is I wish I was there with you. Man, it will probably be in the 60's when I come up.
Beautiful pictures, Ihave been following your blogs ever since we hiked up and stayed for the first time in July. I knew you would get snow from this huge storm.wish I was there with a mug of your hot chocolate!
My goodness, 2 postings in 1 day. We the lucky ones.I'm telling you that drift picture is going to be a big seller.
Great pics!! Following y'all on twitter, but looks like y'all haven't tweeted lately?

barf=snow A flashback
The scence of branches of trees with snow is extremely beautiful...
I wish spring for a wildflower!
The safety is very important in the snow mountain.Who are you? with a wolf team or freeze and snow movement in the slop.
Geologycal aspects are very considerable in this area according to the roport of the geotechnical staff.
Can't believe we were just there on 25th-26th wearing shorts and short sleeves. Could not have ordered better weather for watching the sunset on 25th. Would love to be there in the snow but would not want to be hiking on some of those cliffs covered in snow and ice.Love the pics. You need to post some with the carved pumpkins sitting in the snow.
I wish you the best of luck in the coming days, the back side of Hurricane Sandy should bring some very interesting weather to the Smokies. I wonder if it will rival the pre-Memorial Day storm that hit in the early 1990,s which left 5 ft on Mt Pisgah. I look forward to your upcoming posts. I hope ya'll are staying warm.
Really looking forward to seeing some remnant snow next week.
Heaven on Earth.
You might have to turn the heat on in the cabin you posted the picture of..I'm still cold just looking at it..
We got about half way up this morning a little after the llamas turned back we did the same. Just did not have the time to gather the correct outerwear and footwear before the hike. Next year we will make it come snow, rain or 70 degrees.....
Thank you for the wonderful pictures today....loved 'em! Stay warm and cozy...
Nathan! Good grief! That's a bunch of snow. Thinking of you in nashville cuz!
I am coming up and wanting to Hike Leconte Thursday and Friday. I came out in the snow several years ago and took rainbow falls up. Is there a shorter route to take, I have to make the trip to the top, esp with the 25-30" it should get. Thx, also how did you gain access to the trailheads? Roads closed?
My husband and I was up there last Janurary and there was ice on some of those trails, which we crossed over, but unfortunately we were about 10 minutes away from the top, but had to go back down, due to my knees killing me and we had to allow enough time before it got dark on us. Wished I was there to see all this, especially with all the snowfall. Hope to make it back up sometime in the nearest future.
Hope you have some very warm heaters up there; cause that one picture of the Cabin needs some warming up.
Keep the beautiful pictures coming, and stay warm.
Wow. Was there last Wednesday and was 70 deg. Looks great like this. Would like to be back.
We have reservations for Thursday night at leconte, is it possible to hike up Thursday and if so which would be the best trail to take.
How much snow do you have this morning - 10/30/12?
Great pics. I wonder, since you all have no power up there and no phone service, how do you all have Internet access up there to transmit these pics from up there? Or do you all have to hike back down out of the park to transmit these? I know my cell phone doesn't work up there.
My son could text up there in the dining hall. Took along time. And if I stand on the lodge outside deck I can get service. I have Verizon. But I found it to be very spotty. They do get a single to get the pictures out up there.
I have reaervation for Friday night. Is it possible to get there if the roads are closed? Is a refund possible if roads are closed and there is no way in?
That cabin really looks cold ! I wish I was in it ! My favorite photo, though, is the one of the trail, which is now my desktop background. I wonder if you'll receive any more snow ? It'd be a marvelous time to be on the trail.
I was wondering if the photo of the fellow standing near the cliff is up at what you call Cliff Tops ?
We have reservations for four for Thursday night, but I do not think it will be safe to try it by Thursday. Who do we contact regarding our situation?
What gorgeous pictures. We were there in August, the Most beautiful place I've ever seen and so peaceful. We were treated so well and want to come back but unfortunately not in the cold and snow. Will just have to enjoy your pics
