Mt. LeConte Falls

6/10/2011

Picture
Who said we don't have waterfalls on top of Mt. LeConte?
It appears we received our June rain in two hours. Three and half inches dumped on us in two hours. There was some hail, lightening, and booming thunder. It is ever more impressive when you head is right in the cloud. The temperature cooled down after that. The low was 48 degrees. Today is starting out beautiful. I know they are calling for storms this afternoon. I hope it holds off.

Beautiful pic Allyson! We've been a couple weeks without rain now where I live outside of Tampa. Every day the afternoon storm clouds get a bit closer to us (thought we were going to get rained on during our walk last night) but I don't think the seabreeze has quite picked up enough steam yet! We could definitely use it though! Enjoy the cooler temps!

Happy Birthday Allyson, I'm sure you will have a great day on that beautiful mountain. We were at Sugarlands during that storm, then the Fireflies got rained out. Look forward to meeting you all in our stay at the lodge in July!!

Happy Birthday Allyson, does the water fall end up in the dinning room when it's raining that hard?

Thanks for the Birthday Wishes everyone. Chris is making me pizza, pound cake, fresh strawberries, and lemon sorbet for my special day. He also bought me a "happy Light" for those months with no sun light. That should make the years fly by.

@Pat- I am using an Olympus XZ-1. I luv it!!!

Wow, I missed the falls yesterday! I hiked the Alum Trail earlier in the day, to receive my first teeshirt. This was my 60th birthday present to myself. Thanks to a lovely lady that pointed out all of the spectacular landmarks I had a very rememberable hike. She pointed out sites while I caught my breath. Your terrain and elevation is slightly different from New Orleans. I plan to try another trail next trip.
Thanks for the blog and pictures, it gave me the hiking bug.

Hey Joel C...Beware of that 'hiking bug'. It is contagious and VERY habit forming!! :))

Wow- great picture! We spent the night on June 8th and left the morning of the 9th, so it sounds like we just missed the monsoon. Would have like to have it but glad we didn't have to hike for hours through it...although, a light rain (without lightning) would have cooled us off!
