Nasty Weather.

12/21/2010

Sabah-il-kheir, (arabic)

high 38, low 18. Freezing rain just started an hour ago now, it is really, really slick and dangerous, not to mention windy and cloudy. I fell walking the 15ft to the kitchen this morning. I wouldn't recommend coming up today, its supposed to stick around till tomorrow morning. pictures from sunset last night.

Totally wicked sunset.
Alex, was there any chance of seeing the lunar eclipse up there early early this morn? Have a great Winter Solstice day man!
Peace

So how do you get your flower up there... say, about 35lbs of it? When I hike up will you be serving coffee and hot chocolate?

Patrick, as an old crew member you know better!!! :-)

The lodge is closed from the day before Thanksgiving until mid March. No services are offered. The lodge is locked up and there are no buildings open. If you hiking up during the winter months, please be prepared for every type of condition. Do not expect to see the caretaker. He is not always around.

Patrick, if you hike up make sure you have a good headlamp!! (lol)
Happy Hiking

The glow of the sunset over the Smokies... love it. Take care of yourself in this weather, Alex.

Thanks for the the pics and weather updates! I love checking in daily. WE hiked up Nov 7th...there was about nine inches of snow then. Tenatively planning to hike up on Sunday (the 26th) so please keep us posted as best you know about trail/weather conditions. Merry Christmas!

Awesome pics of the sunset. My wife and I hiked up yesterday and were wishing that we could stay for the sunset on Cliff Tops. We hiked up Alum Cave trail and I would say that some type of crampons were a must because the trail is very icy. We had Yaktrax and were fine. Thanks for the pics!
