Nature's Show

" A beautiful sunset that was mistaken for a dawn."- Claude Debussy

It was a great start to November. The sky was clear and the high was 52º. It was a beautiful day to be on the mountain. The temperatures have gotten colder over night. The low was 29º. The night sky was twinkling with a million stars overhead. The kind of sky that the cooler weather brings. I wouldn't be surprised if we saw the Northern Lights if this weather keeps up. We have had the pleasure of seeing them a couple of times during my eleven years on the mountain. This morning has started out quiet, I am sure with this amazing weather, that is not going to last. This is a great weekend to get out in the park and check out the views.

Beautiful picture today. I put it as my screen saver before I even read anything. Enjoy that weather while you have it.

It was indeed a beautiful night with so many stars visible. We don't have nearly as unique viewing point as you guys down here in the lower elevations but we are far enough from Sevierville's lights to enjoy a night like that.

Sounds like the next few nights are going to get a little colder so I think we'll need a warm fire to stay warm on the porch. Stay warm up there.

Yes, Debi, I did the same as you with today's photo; I have taken many previous months of such photos and incorporated them a "revolving" or "scrolling" screen saver just for my personal laptop, cropping out any words, etc. Always great photos on here ! Peaceful, refreshing !

Shuttle Ride Needed-
My hiking buddy and I are going to stay at LeConte Lodge and are hiking up on Tuesday, November 5 and down on the 6th. We have previously done Alum, Trillium, and Bullhead, and now wish to hike Rainbow Falls and The Boulevard trails. We are inquiring to see if any fellow hikers would be able to give one of us a ride back to our car on Wednesday which would be parked at Rainbow Falls trailhead or at Newfound Gap. I know that’s quite a distance, so an as an alternative we could hike Boulevard and Alum. Am also willing to coordinate shuttle with other hiker(s). Thanks for any reply. dhornberger@zoomtown.com 513-255-2630.

Don, unfortunately I can't help you, but I would encourage you to contact "A Walk In The Woods". They are a guide service in the Smokys but also help with shuttle logistics. They can meet you at a trail head or even move your vehicle from one to the other. We used them when we took two different trails and it was real nice to have my warm dry car waiting for us when we were done with three wet days of backpacking.

Paul, thanks for the reply. I am aware of "A walk in the Wood"s guide service. I am just trying to see if any hikers going to LeConte would be interested in giving a lift or sharing in a joint shuttle/hike.
As a last resort I could make a request at dinner-time announcements to avoid going up and down the same trail.
Thanks again.

Allison, what a beautiful picture. All of your pics are beyond words, but I really think this one is my all time favorite. Like fellow writers, I look forward daily to your pics and all of the comments about this beautiful mountain. Doug, I enjoy your comments as well. You have a flair for the written word.
