Carol Ann Vaughn learning the art of chair caning.
Did we skip winter? It felt like a warm spring day on the mountain. The high was 68º and the low was 46º. The crew had on their t-shirts while sitting out enjoying the sunshine. It was a great day for a hike. Tim's wife Lisa made the trip up the mountain. She comes up at least once a year and works on the dining room chairs. This time she brought her best friend, Carol Ann Vaughan, and taught her the art of chair caning. Carol Ann seems to be a natural at this art form. Our chairs are going to look like new when they are all done.

I have caned chairs before. My dad owned a furniture stripping business and we also caned. Augh! Of course I was 19 and not really into it back in the day. It is a art, wish I had paid more attention.

Technically caning is the seat woven from narrow strips that is done through holes drilled in the chair. The procedure pictured is called seat weaving.

Just wish I could set in one in the near future! What ever you call it!

I'll be sure to give them a "sitting" ovation the next time I'm resting my weary self at the top!

Anna, you might want to give Doug a e-mail @ his e-mail address on his site. I don't do e-mails. Just wandering what's going on with him? Have a good day.

I had a great hike up today! What a gorgeous day. Started at 630am in the dark. I have come to enjoy that a lot-my senses seem to be magnified-for example listening to the water in the stream on the way up to Arch Rock-seems like there are more sounds within the water noise. It was in the 40's when I arrived on top plus some good wind. I love to hear the wind blowing up there on the upper section. Got to talk to Nathan and Chris for a few minutes. That is always a treat. Hard to believe only a month to go for them. Happy trails everyone.
