It was a busy day in the kitchen yesterday. I ended up spending the gorgeous day in doors. I did notice that I had a pretty nice view from my kitchen window. I love looking out the window and seeing the beautiful flowers that surround the building. If I must be in doors, at least I can still have an incredible view. The high was 72 again with a low of 54. I feel for those of you in the areas where it is going to break 100 degrees. If you must be outdoors working, please remember to hydrate with electrolytes, not just water. The same goes for those of you hiking. Your body needs more then water to replenish the nutrients it is loosing while sweating. Remember to drink some sort of sports drink and eat snacks with salt in them. Energy drinks do not help you in weather like this. My best advice to you is to steer clear of them while hiking. Stay safe and drink plenty of fluids. Come on up and enjoy some of our natural air conditioning.

Today's photo makes me happy just looking at it. Wish I were there seeing it myself.

Boy am I jealous! Home is just south Sevierville but I'm currently working a couple months in the Mohave Desert 40 miles south of Las Vegas and the high here hasn't been less than 105deg since getting here 2 weeks ago. That's hot don't care who you are OR what the humidity level is! I look so forward to getting home and making a hike up Leconte which we try to do regularly. Send me some of that cool air! ;-)

My wife and I usually carry up 2-3 packets of powdered electrolyte mix (like Gatorade) and drink 1 quart together at the top, then we will prepare a second quart to drink on our trip down. The powder mixes well with the cold water from the pump in front of the main lodge! Comments are closed.
