US 441 (Newfound Gap Road) has been reopened. Visitors can now use Alum Cave and The Boulevard to access the lodge.
8:00 AM Update:
GSMNP is in the process of assessing park roads for damage and debris after yesterday’s wind event. The wind advisory is over and only intermittent rain showers will linger throughout the day. US 441 and Cherokee Orchard above Twin Creeks are still temporarily closed. LeConte Lodge is open.
Today’s guests wanting an early start have the option of ascending Mt. LeConte via Rainbow Falls/Bull Head from Twin Creeks which adds an additional mile of road walking to your hike. There is also the longer Brushy Mountain Trail out of Greenbrier. There is no timetable for when US 441 will reopen for those folks holding out on utilizing Alum Cave or The Boulevard.
Please make note of any downed trees along the approach trails so that we can pass that info on to the NPS. Thank you.
