Good morning,

I hope many of you got outside yesterday! It got 'warm' up top. Yesterday's high reached 49 degrees. Our morning low was 35 degrees. It's currently partly cloudy and breezy, with notable gusts. Note, the junction of Alum Cave Trail and Rainbow Falls Trail is still icy, so watch your foot placement there.

--

I woke to the soft pre-dawn light accompanied by gusting winds. After calling in the weather and finishing my black cup of coffee, I set out on my sunrise rounds. It looked as though I would soon be socked in by the clouds; I was wrong. An overwhelming sense of excitement surfaced when streaks of color began flowing through the trees. What resulted, was a sunrise that had me questioning my very existence. A stanza of pure sensory overload. That's why I love these mountains. They never cease to humble and inspire. I hope the photo below leaves you asking the same inspired questions!

See you up the trail,
Seth

P.S. Happy 81st Birthday, Sherleen!

Thanks, Seth, for your inspired and inspiring prose and pics. I imagined by now I would be missing JP's lyrical and illuminating winter posts, but it seems the LeConte tradition has been delivered into capable hands. At my age and stage, I expect every winter walk up the Mountain might be my last, but thanks to your blog, I can be there every day.

Love the "blue"photo. One of the most stunning ones taken up there to date! Also like the quote by Lao tzu...studied him in college. Looking forward to seeing Leconte thru your eyes this winter.

The sky looks like it is on fire, but with clouds of purple rain ... amazing!
