Good Morning,

Our high yesterday reached 53 degrees; with an overnight low of reaching 33 degrees. It’s currently 33 degrees and clear.

Clingmans Dome is no stranger to a beautiful sunrise, but the highest point along the Appalachian Trail was looking particularly stunning this morning. I hope the photo above captured the moment well!

With my first week as the winter caretaker in the books, I can officially say that I’ve already forgot what day it is. Upon waking this morning, I thought it must be a Tuesday… guess I’ve settled into the new position well. As you can see below, the date no longer matters in the winter months. Just being here, is surely enough.

Onward and upward,
Seth

P.S. - I’ve been devouring JP’s incredible library of books and would love to see some book recommendations from you all!

Two books being read in our home are, Iron John by Robert Bly and It by Stephen King (tee hee). Another to consider is Life's Journeys according to Mister Rogers, by Fred Rogers. Or North with the Spring by Edwin Way Teale, a naturalist's record of his 17,000 mile journey (published 1951) or Wandering Through Winter, Teale again (Pulitzer Prize for non-fiction in 1966).

With two little ones in the house, it's difficult to find time to read as much as I'd like but I sacrificed a lot of sleep to complete this book and would recommend to all. Very much enjoying your blog, by the way.

Hi Seth!
First of all, you're doing an outstanding job with this blog. It really means a lot to those of us who can't be there as often as we'd like - which would be EVERY day. As far as books go, I think you'd enjoy Boy's Life by Robert McCammon if you haven't already read it. Take it easy... & thanks again for your work on the blog.

Well done Seth! You are doing great with your posts and photos. Since most of us can’t be there in the Winter, it’s so nice to see what it looks like through your eyes.

Hello and welcome Seth ! Beautiful photos ! I’ve been to the top, stayed in a cabin, it’s magical ! Words cannot express the feelings I have when I’m there. There’s something about that mountain for sure ! Of all the beautiful photos I’ve taken, and seen, I believe that a camera just cannot capture the true beauty of it. One has to actually be there to see the beauty, and to feel the magic. There just are no words for it. Thank you for taking care of our beloved mountain and lodge.

Thanks, Seth, for the beautiful photos and keeping us updated on our favorite mountain! I agree with Mike who said that God was having a great day when He created the Smokies. They are a very spiritual place for me, as well. I have been hiking these mountains for all of my 41 years and it never grows old. My husband and I made the trek up LeConte last September via Trillium with our girls, aged 13 and 11. Leconte will always hold a special place in our hearts. One of our favorite parts was setting out very early in the morning when the trail was still covered in the "smoke". It rained all the way up, but I wouldn't have changed a thing! Hope to hike the mountain in January. I will soak up your daily posts until this Bama girl can get there!

Am I too late to the party? Not sure what your tastes are. I like a lot of adventure, YA fiction, fantasy and scifi. Here are a few suggestions and hope you find something that meets up with your tastes:
- C.S. Lewis, either the space trilogy or Narnia series
- Madeleine L'Engle really any but two of my favorites are A Wrinkle in Time and a Swiftly Tilting Planet
-The Giver
-Hunger Games or Harry Potter series
-Touching the Void by Joe Simpson (maybe not the best one to read alone on a mountain haha)
-Cry the Beloved Country
