10.6.16. So, what might happen?

10/6/2016

The sun came out after 5 days of cloudy nothingness!!!

We had a fabulous 64/40 day filled with juncos and bees.

It might be hurricane season along the coast but that does not mean we are totally exempt from some crazy weather!

We could get nothing, lots of rain, lots of snow, who knows what could happen!

Keep an eye on the weather if you are coming up in the
next week or so, we'll try to keep you guys as current as possible with the weather conditions.

Happy hiking!

tgb: "Young" is not his last name if it is "Doug Y" you're referring to; I believe that he lists his email address on his blog site where you can send him a message, etc.

Going up LeConte on first weekend in November. Going to be my 14th time. Can't wait and I hope there is snow. Everyone have a safe trip up and enjoy the beautiful views

My friend Cathy and I had a wonderful time yesterday at the Lodge. Beautiful The staff is the best. Our 4th year and many more to come.

Looks like your weather in the National Park and surrounding area has been superb for several days. Hope Hurricane Matthew steers clear of y'all.

The cool(er) temperatures we've had here just recently in east central Kentucky made me really long to be in the Smokies hiking and camping. It got very hot again today but that won't last long I think, especially if that monster hurricane off of Florida affects the weather this far inland any. And in less than three weeks from today (10/7) I should be up at the lodge enjoying the cool weather and magical atmosphere up there that so appeals to me. I often see questions about which trail is the best, or the easiest and usually someone replies that there really isn't a best or easiest trail as it depends totally on each individual's habits, preferences and hiking style. I prefer the Trillium trail for reasons I discussed on my own web site. I avoid Alum and try to take Rainbow and Bullhead alternately. Good hiking to all.

Heading to Clingman's Dome in a few days, glad to know y'all have our backs. I'm dressing for snow haha!

I've been up to the lodge several times, but this is the first time I've been able to get reservations - staying over early next week. Any suggestions on things to bring that might not be obvious to the first timer?

Headlamp for sure, a long sleeve shirt and some sort of windbreaker/shell coat would be excellent. The temperatures vary up here so it's best to pack dry clothes to change out of when you get up here!

Great suggestions...are there enough blankets? Thanks!

Oh yeah, we got you covered! Pun intended.
Packing either a washcloth or hand towel might be beneficial also.
