Colors on Alum Cave Trail.
Good morning, all! Another frosty, clear autumn morning on the mountain top! Yesterday's high only reached 49 and it was sunny all day. The overnight low fell to 22. Right now it is clear as a bell and 37 degrees. Hot chocolate weather for sure and we have plenty waiting for you up top! Happy fall hiking!

For once I can say I escaped my office cubicle and experienced these Great Smokies today. The crisp air, golden leaves and trails meandering into wooded hillsides. What a great elixer in life. I think it's the reason we visit this website everyday. Great photo.

Could not agree more GCD. Nothing like October skies, cool temps, the smell of fresh fallen leaves and fresh mountain air. Truly good for the soul.

John Muir once said "The mountains are calling and I must go." That's pretty much how I felt this week as I realized I better get out there while the leaves were still falling and changing colors. So I went up the Alum Cave Trail Sunday and Oh what a delight that was! The picture on the blog is perfect! I just love the leaves laying all over the rocks in the streams and the carpet of leaves all over the ground. Get out there folks if you can. Great staff you have up there Ruthie and I enjoyed talking to you for a few minutes. Happy Birthday to your Mom!
Sorry you all had to start approving each comment but am so glad we can just read comments from people who have love in their hearts for this great Lodge and mountain. Say Hi to Tim L. For me!
Have a blessed day all.

Going too have to put this picture on wall paper! Have now a picture of fall leaves on a road some where in the northeast with a little snow mixed in, really looks good, but not to compare to this one!! HAGD

Enjoyed the beautiful color yesterday! It was a bit cool but was beautiful. Quite a few icicles and cool frost/ice formations on this trail. Waiting to see what the temp on Mr. LeConte was yesterday. We took the Trilium trail and were able to see the Lamas as they made their descent. Nice treat at the end of a long trail. Great views down Alums as well!

Alum Cave Trail is one of the best walks in the world. It should be mandatory.
