Rockin' at the break of dawn...
Good morning! It's another beautiful October day at the lodge! Yesterday's high was only 51 and the overnight low was 27...cold and clear all day! Today looks about the same, clear blue skies and 46 degrees. It has been very busy up top and I am so glad that so many people are getting out to experience this glorious weather!

My family would like to thank all of the folks at the lodge for another great overnight stay this past Friday night. Great food and experience! The work done thus far on Alum Cace trail is looking great.

Ruthie, we were glad my niece Calliana got to spend a short time with you again and give you the small gifts she packed up.

The weather could not have been better for a fall trip up our favorite mountain. With that said we decided to count the number of hikers we met on the way down Alum Cace trail on Saturday, expecting there'd be a large numbe. Boy were we right! The total people we met between the lodge and Alum Cave was 361 (including those handing out at the cave). Then continuing to count during the remainder of our decent we met a whopping total of 670 by the time we reached the parking area. The parking lots were full of course and driving along the park road we measured the cars parked along both shoulders stretched 8/10's of a mile.

Thanks for a another great visit.

Chris and family

That porch is one of my most favorite spots at the Lodge.

One of my favorite places too. It's a great place to sit in the morning with a cup of coffee and watch the sun brighten the horizon.

WOW Chris, that is a lot!

THANK YOU to the crew/staff at the lodge! We came up and stayed for our second annual trip, on sunday night. Everything was absolutely amazing! We were able to bring along 5 "never done it before" guests with the 4 of us who HAD done it before. We all thank you! GREAT experience!

Beautiful!! My son and I are headed up on the 28th.We can't wait. I saw where the Roaring Fork Bridge was closed and there is no access to the Trillium Gap parking lot. What would be the closet parking lot to the Trillium Gap trail. We had planned on taking that trail up and the Bullhead trail down. I am not very familiar with the area. Thanks for posting the pictures.

Brian-the closest parking lot is the Rainbow Falls/Bullhead parking lot. You will have to walk 1.7 miles to the Trillium Gap trailhead one way. You could go up Rainbow Falls and back down Bullhead and be right there in the parking lot.

The Rainbow Falls parking lot would be the closest. It will add roughly 2 miles to your hike. When you come down Bullhead you will have about .4 mile back to the Rainbow Falls parking lot.

Brian, park at the Rainbow Falls parking area. It's 2.3 miles to the Trillium Gap Trail from there, If you are planning on descending Bulkhead, the distance is the same.

Your best option would be Rainbow Falls parking area. Then take the connector trail over to Trillium. Check GSMNP web site for updates on closures. Good hiking.

suggestion: Go up the Rainbow Falls trail and down Bullhead.

I am planning on hiking up Trillium on 11-2 for the night. Can't find any info as mentioned earlier on the Roaring Fork Bridge and the Trillium parking lot being closed. Is it still closed?
